Pours a deep black with some purple hues and a one finger tan head that resulted in spotty lacing. Nose is chocolate milk, alcohol and sweet dark fruits. Taste is tangy dark fruits upfront with roasted malts and chalky cocoa with some bitter coffee/hops in the finish. Lighter mouth feel than I expected. Decent RIS. Whiff of ’instant breakfast’. dark pour with a very pretty mocha head. bitter on the tongue with a sweet aftertaste. Espresso and lots of dark cocoa. A bit of tart fruit too. Not as refined as I’d hope, ultimately, but very good. craftbeerdesign (752), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Oct 22, 2008 Updated: Dec 25, 2008bottle. nice thick and dark pour with a bit of a tan head. medium to full body over the palate, while soft on the sides. strong aromas of coffee, liqorice and some sweet malts. The dark coffee and subtle fruit notes come through on the top of the palate with a warming alcohol presence. There is some lingering bitterness on here as well. Strong clean and powerful finish. Solid RIS. WISEGUY572 (1245), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of roast accented fruit, alcohol and muted coffee touches. (7+) Similar flavour, lightly acidic rich roast accented malt core, dry roast grows in the finish, light coffee touched acidity lingers, touches of licorice occasionally are brief and light. (7+) Smooth medium bodied palate is lightly carbonated. Solid well made stout but just a bit off from my ideal and is therefore good rather than great. Bottle shared by Tuqueboy

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 11, 2008 Pour black with a thin brown head. Toasty roasted aroma with some lactic sourness. Quite tart in flavor with mild cocoa. Rather thin in body. Low hop flavor and bitterness. Not my favorite. unclemattie (2413), Georgia, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 11, 2008 12oz bottle, Thanks to CaptainCougar. Pours jet black, with a thin, espresso foam colored head. aroma is the smell of heavy malt extract syrup of deep roasted barley. Big coffee notes. Rich, robust, and roasty. Slightly acidic. Wow. lots of coffee flavors and coffee bean bitterness. Hints of chocolate. Lots of malty sweetness left, although still very balanced. Very heavy. very robusht. some heat in the finish. Now I see why this beer has always rated so well.
