| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 8, 2008 A juggernaught of a beer. Aggressively malted aroma and flavor, this brew wears its alcohol content proudly on its sleeve. Pitch black with a thick present tan head, this brew had the expected roastly chocolate malt, but a nice oily mouthfeel. Aggressive flavor with a bit of earthy bitterness and tons of sweetness. The alcohol burns going down. Over the top, but well done. Had this on tap at Brixx in Greensboro NC. glkaiser (1171), Seattle, Washington, USA

Big, sweet aroma of rich chocolate and dark fruits. Lots of coffee, roast and chocolate in the taste. Big bite of bitterness and plenty of dark fruit. Very enjoyable and smooth for 10%. Yum. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 29, 2008 From bottle : Pours very dark black with a thin brown head that dies out real quick. Very nice aroma of coffee, roasted malts, sweetness, and a little alcohol. Flavor is heavy, coffee, chocolate big time on the finish, and roasted malts. The chocolate flavor on the end sticks in your mouth for awhile, and has an alcohol warmth. Decently thick going down, but very smooth. Pretty solid Impy Stout. grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA

Aroma is coffee, caramel, and overall sweet. Carbonation is non-existant and feels oily/watery in mouth. Flavor is dark roasted coffee with hints of chocolate some dark fruit sweetness. Has an alcohol burn but finished without an alcohol aftertaste. golubj (1287), Sunnyvale, California, USA

Aroma is chocolate milk and some roasted malt. Flavor is sweet milk chocolate, roast, and maybe some metallic dry-hopping. Finish is strange (nutty?) and the mouthfeel is a little off. Good flavor otherwise. bradlyc77 (226), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours black, with a mahogany head.
Aroma is roasted
Taste is roasted malts, filled with alcohol and some dark fruits notes. Light bitter chocolate, beer remains very sweet. Some coffee in the mouthfeel.
This is one impressive RIS from a great brewery. The abv will sneak up on you.
