Very thick. Very creamy. Head pours a rich creamy color. Nice taste of chocolate mixed in. Like the milk stout, this one has a bit of sour in it. Nice. Or maybe what I call sour others might call a bit of fruit taste. Overall, a solid stout.

Bottle. Shared by a generous Ratebeerian at the PP Strong Ale fest 07. Deep, murky brown color. Roasted malt aromas with some toffee, coffee and alcohol. Sharply astringent with lots of roastiness (is that a word?). Coffee and dark fruit notes.

12 oz. bottle, notched best before date along the right side of the label ྡ/08), sampled in a snifter. An impressive appearance, dark brownish black with a robust light brown head of cream foam, good retention, splotchy laced sticking from the top to bottom of the glass. Rich roasted malt smells, dark chocolate with cherries, dark roasted coffee, a light scent of vanilla and even fainter smell of smoke. As it warms aromas of charred wood and roasted nuts come out. Airy creamy feel in the mouth, moderate body that is oily slick on the tongue. The roasted malts are sweet with a mild dry bitterness. Dark chocolate that melds with the dark roast coffee, not a bitter French roast, but milder. The charred and vanilla flavors are faintly in the background, as is the dark cherry fruitiness. Towards the end an subtle citric hop emerges, adding to the dry and mildly bitter finish. The alcohol meshes with the cherries for a low temperature fruity warmth in the palate. A nice RIS from the Duck-Rabbit, quite pleasurable to consume on a cold December night.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of chocolate, and medium notes of roasted malt lending it a bit of acidity, but also hints of citrus. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of chocolate and hard roasted malt, and medium notes of soy sauce and alcohol.

Bottles from many trades.......Heavy, dark pour with a nice hazy swirl in there. Aroma is roasty, a bit sweet, and a lot coffeeish/winey/burnt. Flavor has some dark/burnt malts, roast, coffee, chocolate. Thick, thick, thick - Expedition fans will love it most likely. Not the greatest ever, but pretty dang good - even better than the Baltic Porter.

Alcohol, figs, prunes, raisins and espresso nose. Big and rich on the palate with good roast and mild astringency along with some candi sugar like aspects. Hops are noticeable along with the previously mentioned fruits and espresso. Lingering roasted finish.
