Pours a nice jet black with a small tan head. The aroma is raisins, chocolate, coffee, and dark malts. Nice dark chocolate taste followed by a little bit of the alcohol, which is cleverly hidden. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 2, 2007 Bottle: Black as night, large frothy light brown head, fairly decent lacing.   Grape skin and roasted malts on the nose.   Has a nearly ripened fruity aspect to it, along with coffee, two creams, and some sugar.   Not all that often that you can find an Imperial Stout that has those qualities.   I must say, I am intrigued.   Fruity roastiness on the tongue.   Cocoa and semi-sweet coffee bitterness.   While it is slightly bitter, this one is moreso malty with some graham cracker and very soft soy.   Moderate to full bodied, mouthfeel is moderate and certainly not as thick as I would have hoped.   Finishes bittersweet, slightly dry, roasty, with some definite unripened fruit, especially astringent grape skin and stem.   Fairly enjoyable.   Thanks Nick for this treat.

Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, boozy, floral hops, and hints of coffee and metallic notes (old pennies). Initial taste is bitter hops, chocolate, dark fruits become apparent. Finishing with expresso, roasty, and hints of that intial chocolate come back again. Good palate duration. Good head retention, and some lacing of the glass. Was a true pleasure on this one. kp (8399), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Sep 1, 2007 Updated: Sep 18, 2007Thanks footy! This one pours next to black w/ a full, creamy froth. Head retention is good and reduces to a full lasting canopy. Aromas of chocolate cake, period. Full nectar w/ ample soft residual effers. Possesses a cottonous texture. This is a very strongly flavored I.S. The alcohol is hot and sips whisky strength. Tars and resins protrude w/ lasting impressions. The roast component hits me like a profound philosophical epiphany. It’s almost astringent. Cocoa, leather, cassis, tar, pine resin, cured steak w/ cheries, espresso, copper, and earth. The finish is long w/ a roasted bittering. Overall: this is a very strong flavored and warming brew. It needs a little time to relax. DeweyDell (155), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, alcohol. Chocolate/coffee taste... very sweet. Alcohol is a bit too apparent and it’s a little bit thin for an imperial stout. Good overall, but nothing special. bdigital (586), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 31, 2007 Pours a goth black with a rising tan head. The aroma on this is massive, consisting of raisins, anise, chocolate, coffee, and dark roasted malt. Smooth and silky, yet wasn’t very heavy on the palate. Big dark chocolate taste followed by some marshmallow and dark cherries. Pretty damn good. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA

Flavor is bourbon, coffee, espresso, soy sauce, mollasses, and cloying sugary sweetness. Chocolate is chalky and dry and very lingering in the aftertaste. Espresso, hoppy, burnt chocolate, somethings off.
