| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 9, 2007 Bottle thanks to ross. Black pour with a tall, frothy, lasting, tan head. Roasted malt aroma, bakers cocoa powder, some pine, and a bit acidic. Strong bitter coffee flavor backed up with unsweetened cocoa, some burnt hops and lots of alcohol. A little bit astringent. Body is full and oily with lots of carbonation. If you really like coffee based stouts this could be a good one, but in my opinion it doesn’t quite have enough body and sweetness to balance out the heavy coffee and alcohol notes in it. surffisher (196), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 7, 2007 2005 vintage. Pours black with a very small fizzy head that quickly disappears. No lacing. Aroma is deep, dark chocolates, slightly vinuous, with some toffee sweetness in the finish. Flavor is more bitter chocolates with some deep dark dried fruit notes. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, but slightly astringent. Alcohol warmth is gentle; the 10% is well-hidden. Cletus (5055), Connecticut, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 6, 2007 Pours brown with a tan rocky head. Smells soapy with some decent coffee and chocolate undertones. Tastes of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and lots of bitterness. Good, but nowhere near the greatness of their Baltic porter. masonjer (564), Holt, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 6, 2007 Thanks to Kan for this one! Pours a dark brown/black with a fizzy head that diminishes. Smells surprisingly fruity. With some chocolate and roasty notes. Taste is a lot of the same, the most fruity stout I have ever tasted, with chocolate and roast coffee. quite different, worth a try. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 6, 2007 Pours a very dark brown with plenty of froth on top.
Smell is of dark chocolate, roasted malt and cherries.
Yeah, I think there is some definite cherry, fruit notes coming through moreso in the taste now. A different twist on an Imperial stout, but I’m digging it. Mouthfeel is full, thick and non-cloying.
This is a very solid imperial stout that is able to separate itself from the others via its distinct taste. Would love to try again. irishsnake (353), Oakland, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 4, 2007 2005 Vintage. pours a deep brown-black witha dark brown, thick head that retains well and leaves great lace. chocolate-rhum notes up front, rounded out with some deeper roasty aromas. nicely balanced malt flavors start with a touch of sweetness that deepens into a bitter chocolate/coffee roastiness. some astringency in the finish, as well as some alcohol warmth. nice, malt-accented RIS. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 4, 2007 12oz bottle via trade with DrBayern, many thanks. Pours well lets see, black if you hadn’t guessed with a thin coco brown head. Aroma is smokey, burnt and sweet little notes of coffee and chocolate. The taste is sweet chocolately and there is a bit of salt and sour in there. This is a bit dissapointing, good for sure but strange. henrikb (1303), Aarhus, Denmark
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 2, 2007 Black body, creamy milk chocolate colored head; Big nose of burnt chocolate and sharp hops; Soft textured body with a soft carbonation and a very sharp bitterness, quite salty as well; Long finish, salty, bitter and quite sour, lots of burnt chocolate, smoked cold cigar and prune aromas. Badly composed beer, the soft texture and the soft carbonation doesn’t fit the sourness at all, Harveys any day!
