4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Crosling (1863) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - JUN 3, 2007Pours dark brown, but appears black in the glass. A firm, gorgeous dark brown head resides atop the nearly opaque liquid. An interesting nose of the attributes of dark malts and yeast (chocolate, and dark, sweet sugary fruits). It’s fairly powerful and complex. I tasted this as soon as it was released, and wow, has this changed since I tried it iabout 3-4 months ago. I remember a meek, uncomplex, fresh Imperial Stout and already, this has transitioned into a fairly good, moderately complex Imperial Stout, with great potential. The finish is particularly impressive, showing it’s futuristic glory.
As most know, the best Imperial Stouts don’t peek until at least the 1 year mark and I have a feeling this will be really great at that point. I’m glad I have a number of bottles..

Great beer from a great brewer. Black as night with a high alochol aroma and some chocolate sweetness. Taste was bold coffee and chocolate with a kick. Blended nicely as it wasnt too chewy. Fantastic.

Appearance: viscous near-black pour, one finger of thick, creamy tan head with a hint of purple, syrupy lacing. Aroma: chocolate, piney, herbal hops, espresso. Taste: bitter dark chocolate, resinous, slightly dank hops, a bit of mint, burnt black bread, soy sauce. Finish: bitter, syrupy finish with lingering roast and pine character. Notes: Typical and excellent RIS. Only thing that was missing was a prominent licorice note. Very good. Alcohol well-hidden.

Augusta, Ga - Rooster’s Beak Restaurant - 12 oz bottle - Black tar pour with a medium thick khaki head that leaves a bit of sticky lacing. Aroma offers brief hints of chocolate and bitter coffee but could be a bit more pronounced. Flavor has some hints of licorice, horehound candy, bittersweet chocolate, some eggy notes and a hint of coffee. Mouthfeel is leaning to the thick side. Pretty solid stout - improves greatly as it warms..

Acquired in a trade, 375ML 2012 vintage
A - Pours midnight black, viscous, no head.
S - licorice and roasted espresso beans
T - Very creamy finish, nice sweetness throughout, lots of roasted barley, sort of peaty with a hint of chocolate.
M - Thick but not boozy or oily
O - A very standard RIS. No flavor really stands out, baseline, would be interesting to put the thick viscous RIS in a bourbon barrel.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DrSilverworm (2733) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 7, 2013
12oz bottle, shared by Jimmy. Clear dark red color. Thin light brown head, good lace. Bigger body. Lighter, crisp carbonation. Body is a little thin, no chewiness, but I don’t really mind it. Good big roasty flavor, dark chocolate. Big bitter, minimal sweet. Alcohol not noticeable.. Lighter body makes this very easy to drink, for 10%. Nice bitter, bold stuff.
