awaisanen (1116), Irvine, California, USA Apr 30, 2008 From a 12oz Bottle, Vintage 2006. Obtained in a trade with afatty. Transparent, crimson tinged caramel colored pour with a thin head of quickly dissipating fine bubbled tan. Aromas of caramel, honey, green raisins, and a hint of strawberry fruit. Clean caramel malt with a touch of fruity malt sweetness. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel with a moderately dry malty texture. Flavors of caramel, leather, raisins, and prune skins. Munich-like grapey qualties. Perhaps a touch of chocolate. Clean and malty, but the raisin and grape malt flavors are a bit over-powering, preventing additional complexity from coming through. Enjoyable, but not amazing. Thanks, Glenn!
mcbackus (566), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Jul 14, 2008 bottle: pours adirty brown with a thin tan head. aroma is very caramel and toffee a little fresh fruit and very light floral scent. flavours are slightly burnt sugars and sweet almost caramel candy some grains and very small smokieness. an ok scoth ale that can be drank with no problem sloth (1491), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Jul 9, 2008 Small tan head, retention is fair, lacing is spotty. Clear amber color. Nose of sweet malts, light smokeyness and earth. Body is med/full with a silky palate and softly prickly carbonation. Malty sweetness drys out after a few sips and leaves you with some nice toasted and smokey flavors along with some caramel, berrys, light wood and alc. notes that are nice. Some dark fruity notes appear, hints of raisin and maybe a touch of molasses. Lightly sweet and fruity finish. I,m not much of a Scotch ale person but this a nice brew. Bottle received in trade, not sure who from though. For that i apologize and also say, Thanks! Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours a amber golden body with a white head. Cinnamon, sweet caramel and some fruit present. ABV comes out witha hint of woodiness. Marsiblursi (1270), Göteborg, Sweden Jun 22, 2008 (Bottle thanks to whoever sent this) Pours a beautiful deep mahogany red colour with a small head. The aroma is malty up front with some tones of buttery caramel, toffee, maple syrup, brown sugar, bread, nuts - almond walnut shells, and light smoke. Dark fruity and light spicy undertones of figs, (rum) raisins, cinnamon buns, vanilla, mild white pepper, oven baked apples and cherries. Alcohol, dough and earth is also present. The flavour is medium malty, and light hoppy with light sourish sting in the finish. Tones of caramel, toffee, smoke, nuts, syrup, brown sugar, some dark fruits, sourish berries/cherries, light spicy and some alcohol, Bit vinous. The mouthfeel is thick and a bit oily but, on the other hand, maybe a bit too syrupy. Medium to heavily sweet, light bitter and light to medium acid. Sticky malt and a light wine-ish tartness lingering. Medium to full bodied. Scubatrip (310), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Jun 19, 2008 From the bottle, pours a dark and opaque bfrown with little tan head. Aroma is of alcohol and brown sugar. Taste is heavy and of alcohol and sweetness. Really overshadows any other flavors. Too sweet and heavy to have any more than one in a night, but a pretty good scotch ale.
