Very dark on the pour. Piney and a somewhat burnt caramel flavor. Malty, nutty flavors with a light sweet roasty aftertaste.

Pecan with toffee, Werther’s caramel candy, and slight chocolate aromas. Taste follows suit. The flavors in and of themselves are nice and blend fine, but the finish is too sweet, and even a little metallic. I’m guessing the sweetness is a cover for the fairly elevated ABV. I think this could have been a lot better if they lessened the sweetness a little and just gave it a more typical ABV for a brown ale. Some good stuff going on here, but the execution is just not precise.

On tap at 28/65. It poured a brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of pecans, some toffee, caramel and hops. The taste was similar with more nuttiness, some bitterness and a medium body with a sticky mouthfeel. Nice Brown ale.

Can shared at the Kernel during Zwanze 2014. Thanks to...Fergus? Pours clear brown with a big, frothy tan head. The nose holds light dusty cocoa, some brown bread, toasted sugars. Medium sweet flavor with light roast, nice chocolate, some dried fruits, toasty toffee. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Nicely balanced finish with more toasted toffee and mellow cocoa. Nothing wrong here.

Pours brown with a crimson hue and a tan head. The aroma has roasted sweet nutty malt, heavy pecans, brown sugar and maple syrup. It has a smooth medium body with fairly soft carbonation and lots of it. The tastes starts off like the aroma, but even sweeter and a bit less nutty. The finish is a touch astringent and has a bit of earthy hops. Okay, but too sweet for me.

473ml can. Dark brown. Heaps of head. Aroma is caramelly, roasty, grainy at first. Also some cherry and tobacco hints. Taste is along similar lines, but more robust. Malty, roasty and chocolatey. Despite the maltiness, it isn’t particularly sweet, which is nice. Not a bad brown but pecans didn’t really come to mind.

473ml can. Opaque, darkest brown colour with huge, frothy, rapidly diminishing, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Nuttily, caramel malty aroma with extreme metallic touch. Taste is moderately sweet, nuttily malty, caramel, a touch of alcohol; oily texture, chewy palate.

Can (AbM)
Can looks like gone through the Iwo Jima battle, but no holes. Deep brown, ruby color, small steady beige head. Caramel, metal, nuts and alcohol in the nose. Medium-bodied, active carbonation. Harsh bitter front, grassy with hints of coffee-like roastyness. Nut much pecan nuts found. Maybe it is so old can that it has gone very dry? Hops are more or less there still.

Pour out of bottle, reddish brown pour with slightly off white head, aroma brought notes of acetone, some caramel, touch of bread, hints of nuts in there almost a green apple note. Taste is a mix of green apple, acetone, some slight nice pecan/nutty note with a touch of caramel. Too bad.
