On tap: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy pear, light Belgian yeast, a touch of spice, and apple. It’s a hazy amber with a small white head and a good amount of dotted lacing. The flavor starts with moderate pear. The finish has light spice, citrus, floral notes, and a touch of grass. It’s a medium bodied with mild carbonation.

Draft. Poured a clear yellow color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate herbs, hop and yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium yeasty sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Complex good brew.

Silphium (3179) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - AUG 14, 2012
Draft at The Filling Station, Traverse City. Hazy straw body, thin clumping off-white head. Sweet nose with white grape, pear, and green apple skin, estery/phenolic, with a tad of white pepper in addition to clove and banana. Tripelesque. Clove features more prominently in the body, with banana, residual sugars, and light fruit juice (especially white grape), finishing with cloves. Hints of bubblegum appear with warmth. Nice full, biscuity malts but dry. The finish is a bit astringent/rough, and there are hints of rubbing alcohol. Promising.
