The Governator Ale is a craft-brewed ESB (extra special bitter) styled after England's finest "session" beers. The ale is easy-drinking, well-hopped and a bit stronger in alcohol than most craft beers. The Governator will only be available in California through the end of spring 2004.

A friend gave me this bottle he had saved for a while. Pours copper with a thick off-white head and a bready aroma. There is a slightly sour brown malt flavor with a dry finish. It obviously has gone bad, since it was not intended to be sour. But the flavor is surprisingly not too bad if you want to call it a sour beer.

"Old brew. Pumping iron label. Total novelty, but we drank it just for the hell of it. I remember it being ok fresh, but with age on it, it was pretty bad :)"

22oz bottle-thanks jtclockwork for sharing-pours a light tan ring for a head and hazy amber color. Aroma is sweet medium malt, raisin/prune/plum, hint of spice hops, corn starch. Taste is slight spice hops that vanishes, light medium malt-caramel.

Bottle shared with jcwattsrugger. Pours dark amber. Nose is way past its prime - toffee, prune, raisin, plum, malt, grain, cornstarch and beets. Taste is grain, malt and cream soda. Odd.

Been hanging on to this one for awhile. Pours a yellowish color with a small head. Faint light caramel malt aromas, maybe some hops. Flavor was of light caramel malts, some fruit, but not like a esb im sure to being so old. The uniquness of it made it a neat brew.

22 oz bottle (origional bottling) - Pours a slightly hazy light amber/yellow color with smallish off white head. Aroma has toasted/biscuity malts, light caramel, slightly oxidized, notes of pear, honey, and faint diactyl. Flavor has chewy malts, sweet caramel, notes of coriander and toasted oak. Finish is mildly sweet. Overall this is not bad - not great, but better than I was expecting.

I think it’s back from retirement. Bomber from "Pumping Iron Brewing". Purchased at Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA in June 2009. It wasn’t there a few months ago. Rather ESB aroma of floral over lightly roasted caramel. Seems freshish. Poured amber with a off-whie head. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is light roast caramel with a decent amount of hop. Fits the ESB style. Finishes mildly bitter, but rather floral.

Pulled from the vaults to make an appearance at Dr. Bill’s. Light bronze colour. Big oxidized malt nose - what can you do? It’s not entirely unpleasant, actually. Sweetish, with a hint of oxidation. For an ESB there isn’t any bitterness left in the beer. It’s perfectly drinkable but none too exciting and really, that’s whta Portland Brewng beers are like fresh.

My first thought was how old is this? A light burnt orange color with a 1 finger thick head. Pretty visible active carbonation. Aroma is slightly hoppy, some mild citrus lemon grass kind of thing. Interesting. Flavor is mild hops, a little sour, a little lemon zestiness. Grass. Mild caramel malt. Not alot of aftertaste. A little metallic. A drinkable ale with a cool bottle.
