Pours very thick, oily and black. Immediately felt good about this beer. Aromas of vanilla, coffee, chocolate. Taste is smooth, sweet with a dry, roasty finish. Body is very full with an oily and creamy texture. Superb.

Aug 2013 - At LCBF as ’Whiskey Aged Stout 7.7%’. 1/2 pint. Black, big tan head. Smells of crayon, roasted barley. Body is medium to heavy. Taste - whiskey is mild - it imparts some vanilla and cream without becoming the main event. Slightly sour. Some coffee and liquorice. Lovely balance. I’m impressed.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with very late awakening, very small, creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, dark brown head. Very intense, dark chocolately dark malty aroma, truffles, some roast, some coffee, well matching whisky notes, wood, vanilla, alcohol. Taste is chocolately and roasty dark malty, slightly sweet, dark and milk chocolate notes, minimally tart, dry notes of leather; superbly integrated whisky flavours, well balanced overall. Very oily, viscid, sticky, smooth and soft palate, gentle, fine-pored carbonation. Unbelievably rich for its relatively low abv.

Bottle. Roast, vanilla and a hint of bourbon in the aroma. Creamy. Full bodied. Malty sweet, roasty creamy vanilla flavors. Sweet indeed, but not without complexity.

Bottle from the brewery. I’ve kept this for a few months. Maybe about 1 year. I’ve had some issues with keeping Kernel barrel aged beers with infections. However, from the moment I open it this is sublime. Thick and oily in the glass, just how an imperial stout should be in my book. No head. Nose is thick syrupy dark chocolate, very lactic milky, creamy, vanilla, slight bit of whiskey barrel. Taste is dark chocolate, black coffee, vanilla, milky, lactic, slight whiskey barrel, but it’s nice and soft and smooth. Very good beer. On the finish it’s roasted bitterness, dark chocolate and some tingly aged wood acidness.

Bottle at home. Dark brown to black pour. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, licorice, peat, vanilla and chocolate. Flavor is roasted, smooth, well balanced and full bodied. Can compete easily with the 10+ abv stouts. Great brew.

Bottle from madmitch76. Pours very dark brown with a small tanned head. Aroma of roasted malts, wood, whisky, tar and weak peat. Taste is good roasted malts, weak sweet, soft carbonated, light sticky mouthfeel, with just a touch of whisky and wood, well integrated, dry roasty end with a touch of liquorice and tar. Nice
