Bottle from the brewery. Iíve kept this for a few months. Maybe about 1 year. Iíve had some issues with keeping Kernel barrel aged beers with infections. However, from the moment I open it this is sublime. Thick and oily in the glass, just how an imperial stout should be in my book. No head. Nose is thick syrupy dark chocolate, very lactic milky, creamy, vanilla, slight bit of whiskey barrel. Taste is dark chocolate, black coffee, vanilla, milky, lactic, slight whiskey barrel, but itís nice and soft and smooth. Very good beer. On the finish itís roasted bitterness, dark chocolate and some tingly aged wood acidness.

Bottle at home. Dark brown to black pour. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, licorice, peat, vanilla and chocolate. Flavor is roasted, smooth, well balanced and full bodied. Can compete easily with the 10+ abv stouts. Great brew.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2014 Bottle from the brewery. Pours pitch black with a very small and dark tan head leaving light spotty lacing. Head quickly subsides leaving a ring around the glass. Nose is whisky forward. Seems like the barrels have done a fair bit. Fair amount of vanilla bean and light earthy spice, hinting at a touch of smoke with mild liquorice behind it and a superb ashy leather dominant note. Quite raw and in your face. Taste is milky chocolate, heavy spice and dirt, moderate whisky, sweet vanilla and light ash underneath it all. A real astringent bitterness to follow. Touch thin on the mouth feel with very light carbonation. A very solid BA stout but I feel itís just lacking that wow factor to be great

Bottle from the brewery. Black pour with a light tan lacing (head soon vanishes). Dark roast coffee, wood, oak and dark chocolate aroma. Quite a low carbonation. Flavours of coffee, molasses and dark chocolate. Long sweet finish.
