maneliquor (3007) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 31, 2013
Bottle from the brewery. Pours pitch black with a very small and dark tan head leaving light spotty lacing. Head quickly subsides leaving a ring around the glass. Nose is whisky forward. Seems like the barrels have done a fair bit. Fair amount of vanilla bean and light earthy spice, hinting at a touch of smoke with mild liquorice behind it. Quite raw and in your face. Taste is milky chocolate, heavy spice and dirt, moderate whisky, sweet vanilla and light ash underneath it all. A real astringent bitterness to follow. Touch thin on the mouth feel with very light carbonation. A very solid BA stout but I feel it’s just lacking that wow factor to be great
