3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Thanks Milan: Served in a Chouffe glass:
Hazy bright yellow colored body with a small medium white head on top.
Aromas of sauerkraut, tart, light funky, manure and light tart fruity.
Flavour is light tart, grapes, light wood, yeast, light bitter, herbs, light white vinous, light wild yeast. It’s an easy drinker and lots of fun but not enough going on in this beer to set a high score.
Aftertaste is light tart, grapes, some yeast, clean wood and light white vinous notes.
Very nice beer but knowing the Kernel did it, I might think to much as this would be a flawless classic for the Berliner Weisse style. Anyways, nice! Btw, ABV was lower than 4%!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Tomlinson’s beer shop. Slight to no head. Beautiful chardonnay colour, has a slight bread dough and green apple nose. Good acidity on the palate. Lemon hit with oakey undertone. Tart aftertaste with fresh grass and unripe apple. A definite hot summers day beer chilled to 5-7c. Mellows out after been in glass for 5 minutes. This would be interesting to try after a year or so cellaring.

330ml bottle, bottle-conditioned. ar: sour. ap: very light colour, slightly cloudy. ta: sour, wine-like taste. Herbal/spicy hop. pa: light-bodied, thin texture, lively carbonation, long, sour finish. ov: did not like. Perhaps a connoisseurs beer. The first kernel beer not to my taste.
Sampled 5 months after bottling, bbe date extends to 3 years.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Cask Clapham. A nice twist in this one, lovely red wine barrel character, fine to have this in a session strength beer. The saison character is well hidden, though.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Keg at CBC Clapham. It pours a slightly hazy golden colour with smal white head. Aroma is berries light wood, white grapes. Taste is light and zesty, lemon and orange zest, faint funk. Medium to thin body with good carbonation. Ok saison but too subtle barrel notes. In my experience, Kernel has proved to have the least effective (on flavours, it is) barrel aging I’ve seen, from saisons to stouts they tend to be a let down.
