3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DruncanVeasey (6112) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Premier, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - MAY 12, 2011
UPDATED: JUL 27, 2011 1) Oh dear. A gusher, and I’ve not had many English ones- bonus point. Pours itself black with a climbing beige foam. Strong black coffee at the front softening into cinder toffee, blueberry, After Eight mint, heavy cocoa black chocolate turned to ash. Charred nut, burnt toast aroma with an undercurrent of jam like you spead the bread before you put it in the toaster. The usual balance, excellence and big bold flavours from The Kernel.
2) 6.5%. No gushing this time, but plenty more US hop, pithy grapefruit, liquorice and Neopolitan ice cream notes. Top stuff.

330ml bottle shared with blankboy and garthicus. Deep reddish-brown, average frothy beige head. Incredibly dry aroma - roast nutshell malt, tons of dry resin bitterness. Taste follows, more acidic, not as roasty or bitter, mild alcohol. Slick, astringent mouthfeel, mild carbonation, very long bitter, coffee ground sourness. Interesting take.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 sebletitje (5416) - Enghien, BELGIUM - DEC 10, 2011
33cl from DeMolen biershop.
Brune, col fin beige.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 larsga (5325) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 19, 2011
Explosive gusher. Medium beige head, at least after we’ve been cleaning for half an hour. Muddy deep dull brown body with floaties. Strong resiny wooden lacquer aroma with spicy orange notes, as well as some earth. Dry-sweet roasty oranges and earth taste. Mid-bodied. Flat, dull mouthfeel, unsurprisingly. Dry-sweet roasty burnt popcorn aftertaste with fruity notes. Probably quite good when not so damned flat. (0.33l bottle, beermerchants.com.)

Malty, roasted taste with dark bread, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit and a generous roasty coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with just a touch of sweetness. Solid and classic porter. Very nice.
