3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
33cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring - hops listed on back of bottle. A pitch black pour with a ring of cream head; intense chocolate malt aroma with a whiff of vanilla; the taste has lots of acrid smoke and burnt wood, but this then softens somewhat towards bitter dark chocolate; and then a dry peaty finish, and a long lingering bitter finish. While I very much like the style, I think the hopping is too assertive on this occasion.

Bottle. Bottle showed its strength as 6.1 per cent. Dark brown with a small head and an unusual mix of hops and flowery citrus.. Reminded me of a cross between a stout an a IPA .Must be tried.

Cask (!) at The Duke Of Wellington, Dalston. Deep brown color with a minimal tan head. The nose is full of caramel, roasted malts, mild coffee, dark fruits, some pepper. The taste is quite sweet, caramel, juicy and hoppy. The finish is long and dry. Nice. Medium body, soft carbonation. An excellent porter.
