Based on a recipe from a London Brewery in 1890.
Simple recipe, massive taste. Dark, dark black. Oily texture. Loads of rich dried fruit and alcohol warmth ≠ rum and raisin. Then a herbal hop bitterness on top of huge lingering espresso. Hints of leather, tar, smoke, vanilla and chocolate. Roasty.

Keg at The Hop Inn, Newcastle-Under-Lyme. A black colour with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, some tar, slight vanilla and a little hazelnut. Taste of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, a little raisin, some other dark fruits, subtle hazelnut, a hint of vanilla and liquorice. Medium bodied and moderate carbonation. A dry, lingering, chocolate vanilla, roasted bitterness in the finish. A full on roasted stout, a little bit of sweetness that works well. A sipping stout that is nice to drink.

Pitch black, with a nice, velvety, coffee coloured head. Smells like dark chocolate, smoke, roasted malt and coffee. Tastes exacly like I envision an stout: dark chocolate, bitter cocoa, sme coffee, smoky malts. Very well made.

0,33l bottle at home. Bottled 21.01.2015, BB 21.01.2017 7.4% ABV. nice dark almost black color, has a nice stable and mid-sized dark coffee-colored head. looks great. smells very nicely roasted, both earthy and smoke notes. some spices noticeable, also some very nice coffee notes, light notes of bitter chocolate, cacao. After the beer warms up a bit the coffee and chocolate come even more to the foreground. very nice smell, love it. full body, rather light carbonation, rather light mouthfeel (considering the ABV). oh shit, whatís happening? there is a lot of .... vanilla and licorice on the taste, two of my least favorite flavours in a beer, especially the vanilla. apart from that some earthy notes, light smoke, spices, only very light coffee and chocolate, also some roast, but overpowered by all the vanilla. finishes with vanilla, some roast and a bit earthy. Overall still a nice beer but not so much my thing. If the taste was just a little closer to the taste I would have loved this ... but oh well.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, espresso, burnt notes, black licorice, and vanilla. Itís a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige small khaki head that fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. The flavor starts with moderate dark chocolate, light caramel, and a hint of molasses. The finish has moderate espresso, burnt notes, and a hint of vanilla. Itís a medium bodied with mild carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2015 Dark roasted stout. Sharp alcohol and really hits the spot. Very strong on the malts. Its thoroughly enjoyable. Complex and Strong. Bit too many malts for me. I prefer something a little crisper

Pitch black, oily. Brick red foam. Aroma molasses, cocoa powder, prune jam. Palate heavy as hell. Sourish coffee, prunes in alcohol. Like good rich espresso with a sip of rum. Taste better than aroma.
