Bottle. Very dark brown to black colour with a creamy tan head. The aroma is deep roast malt with coffee and chocolate notes, as well as licorice and some fruitier notes. The flavour is smooth chocolate, dark roast to burnt malt, licorice, coffee notes. Quite a creamy texture. This is a lovely stout.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Handsome black body beneath silly tan head. Beautiful.
Expansive roasty, milk-chocolate-infused aroma fills the air. Some dryness at the end.
Taste opens up leathery and ashy. Turns hoppy on a dime, finishing bone dry with lingering bitterness and notes of an ashtray. Weird; def not my thing.
Nice, smooth body, and all other traits are firmly in the "winner" category. Shame this is all wasted on a beer which disappoints so heavily on the palate.

0,33L bottle, ABV 8,2%. Pours black with tan head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is roast, coffee. Flavor is sweet and bitter, coffee, intense roast, malt, dark chocolate. Finish is coffee bitter. Feels creamy. Alcohol is well covered. Overall: great brew.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Export stout apparently based on a recipe from 1890 and made by a young micro brewery in the heart of London. Deep beige head, jet black colour. Strong coffee bean aroma, bitter chocolate, leather, nutmeg, dates. Dried fruits in the taste, thick oily mouthfeel, quickly overwhelmed by a very concentrated yet elegant, refinded roasted bitterness, like a high quality coffee, deep chocolatey maltiness, long bitter finish, well-balanced. Enjoyed this very much.

Shared by martjoobolut, thanks! lack beer with a tan head. Nose is roast, milk chocolate, dry notes, coffee. Flavor is roast, chocolate, coffee, licorice, hops and roast in the finish. Medium to full body. Hides it’s ABV well. Slick and smooth, easy to drink.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Near-black beer with a thin beige head and a light, smoky malt aroma. Flavour has the same smoky malt vut with sharp, tangy fruit, bitter chocolate and hop coming through as well. Its strong but very well balanced and leaves a distinctive chocolate/coffee aftertaste.

Almost black, good beige head. Aroma and taste: Coffee, coffee, coffee... very well balanced. Very good, as usual in The Kernel.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottled 18/02/14. 8.2%ABV. Good solid stout. I loved well balanced flavours of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and a touch of vanilla. Hugely impressive. I’ll dig the Kernel more for sure.
