Based on a recipe from a London Brewery in 1890.
Simple recipe, massive taste. Dark, dark black. Oily texture. Loads of rich dried fruit and alcohol warmth rum and raisin. Then a herbal hop bitterness on top of huge lingering espresso. Hints of leather, tar, smoke, vanilla and chocolate. Roasty.

On tap (keg) @ Beer Temple. ’Clear’ very dark (almost black) color. Short soapy beige head. Aroma’s: Heavy roast, ground coffee, slight malty sweetness, hints of red fruit (notably retronasal). Flavor is moderate sweet, roasted, moderate bitter. Medium bodied. Finishes burnt, ashy, moderate to full bitter. Without the sweetness this would be a bit too burnt, but that saves it.

Mooie zwarte kleur met een volle bruine kraag. Ruikt sterk koffie, chocolade. Smaakt sterk naar koffie, vanille en chocolade. Erg goed, maar iets te veel koffie m

Pours a black beer with a not very long lasting head. Smells incredible, coffee, lots of chocolate, bot cream/vanilla. Tastes fruity, coffee, chocolate and roasted. Very nice. Average carbo, medium body and a sticky texture.

Potent aroma of roasted malts, coffee, peat, licorice, chocolate, slight smoke. Flavour is similar, medium peaty sweetness with some bitterness in the finish. Very thick body. Not as massive as an Imperial Russian Stout, but this is about as good as a ’regular’ Stout gets.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2014 2014-07-09. Black body with a large creamy chocolate milk brown head. 4+ Aroma is slightly less robust than the flavour, modest dark malt with notes of cocoa and muted roast. 7+ Flavour is rich, sweet dark malt core with sweet cocoa notes and light dry bitter roast in the finish. Bitter roast comes out much more as it warms up, possibly to its detriment I haven’t quite decided. 8+ Medium to full bodied palate, good carbonation. 4+ Lovely. 7/5/8/4/16+ On tap at The Hanging Bat, Edinburgh

2014-02-28. Black body with a small tan head. 3+ Aroma is dry and roasty, light notes of cocoa, dark chocolate roast. 7+ Flavour is fairly bitter, dark malt core, accented by dryish cocoa and chocolate notes. 7++ Smooth average plus bodied palate, modest carbonation. 3+ Solid straightforward stout. 7/4/7/4/16 Bottle shared by HogTownHarry

A beautiful creamy, espresso & dark chocolate stout, exactly how a traditional export stout should taste. A classic - keep brewing it! Rated by BrewTom
