Bottle at "Darkness comes to town", 131116. Pitch black beer with a small brownish head. Roasted whisky aroma, dark chocolate, peat, hay, cocoa powder, licorice, woody, vanilla notes, coffee, tar, some raisins. Roasted coffee and whisky finish, vanilla, hay, woody, licorice, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla notes. Heavy roasted finish, peat, raisins, floral, hay, dark chocolate. Really good.

Bottle courtesy of rlgk. Pours dark blackish brown with a very small bubbly goldenish beige head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with roasted malts, high quality dark chocolate, peat, dark roast coffee, charred wood, tar, burnt caramel, hay, burnt cookies and hints of banana bread. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, sweet liquorice candy, high quality dark chocolate, moist wood, tar, chocolate cake, soy sauce, banana bread, burnt caramel, alcohol and hints of peat. Mouthfeel is round, soft, boozy and medium to full bodied. finish is tiny sweet and bitter with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, chocolate cake, charred wood, vanilla fudge, alcohol, moist wood and hints of single malt whisky. Good but I fear I had higher expectations.

Sampled draft @ Borefts 2013. Black with a mocha head. Nose is huge coffee, creamy, chocolate, malty, sweet, chocolate bars, huge cocoa. Taste is milky, huge cocoa, creamy, coffee, vanilla, caramel, toffee, more brown chocolate & light coconut, very fain wood & very light whisky. Creamy body. The barrel is way too absent, almost indistinguishable from the regular version which is a touch better. This get a nice score because the base beer is incredible, this feels a bit like a waste of barrel-aging. Too bad.

Bottle shared by Fonefan at his place. Opaque pitch black color, small brown head. Aroma ofmmalts, dark and toasted malts, earthy, metallic. Taste malts, slightly wood, slightly metallic again. It’s nice, but nit one of my top ones. Not the barrel aging I prefer I guess.

Keg at CBC Clerkenwell 2nd B’Day Extravaganza. It pours deep black with a small tan head. Roasted tar aroma, dark chocolate, coffee, hay, licorice, vanilla notes, bourbon, grassy, peat notes. Roasted cocoa flavor, peat, whisky, licorice, grassy, warming alcohol, vanilla, coffee. Soot finish with coffee, dark chocolate, peat, vanilla and woods. Good indeed.

Keg at The Southern. Black with a brown head. Chocolate and whisky to the nose. Flavour is a symphony. Burnt wood, Ashy toast, liquorice and vanilla. The whisky is very prominent as well, almost like half a shot has been stirred in to my glass. The alcohol is at first integrated and then becomes quite evident. Cracking beer. One of the highlights of my week in Edinburgh.

Dark ruby brown black with lacing tan head. Rich chocolate, cocoa, slight briney whisky. Rich grainy cocoa, full bodied, coffee, growing alcohol warmth, long roasty finish, savoury. Whisky very subtle. Fantastic!

Craft Clerkenwell 2nd Birthday Bonanza! Keg. Opaque dark brown - black beer, little tan head. Sweet whisky nose, little minerals. Palate is smooth and slightly viscous with mild minerally carbonation. Smooth dark malt, thin cream. Whisper of dark chocolate and coffee. Sublte medicinal vibe. Smooth and mellow whisky. Light touch of dark fruits. Finishes smooth and semi dry with a little alcohol spice.

keg at the Craft Beer Company 2nd birthday. Aroma is choc prune, vanilla and oak. A litte belgian yeast ester? Weird. Syrup low carb. Brown malt, sugar and oak. Nice depth of flavour. Excellent.

Keg at southern. Black with tan head. Slightly peaty roasty whisky aroma, some alcoho, vanilla and coconut. Taste is rich, roasty, licorice, whiskey, coconut. Thick and full. Some alcohol in there. Nice
