Dark ruby brown black with lacing tan head. Rich chocolate, cocoa, slight briney whisky. Rich grainy cocoa, full bodied, coffee, growing alcohol warmth, long roasty finish, savoury. Whisky very subtle. Fantastic!

Sampled draft @ Borefts 2013. Black with a mocha head. Nose is huge coffee, creamy, chocolate, malty, sweet, chocolate bars, huge cocoa. Taste is milky, huge cocoa, creamy, coffee, vanilla, caramel, toffee, more brown chocolate & light coconut, very fain wood & very light whisky. Creamy body. The barrel is way too absent, almost indistinguishable from the regular version which is a touch better. This get a nice score because the base beer is incredible, this feels a bit like a waste of barrel-aging. Too bad.

Keg at CBC Clerkenwell during the Second Birthday Party - London. Pours black-brown with a creamy, tan head. Dry dark chocolate aroma, some sturdy roasted malts, burnt wood. Big sweet flavor, lightly dry, with some alcohol punch, dark chocolate, bitter baking cocoa, gooey chocolate, dry earthy and woody bitterness. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Charred wood to finish with more bitter baking cocoa, strong roasted malts, dirt, some dark fruits. Outstanding. Quite drinkable given the ABV. One of the top beers of the afternoon.

Bottle from Madmitch76. Pours almost pitch black with a small creamy tanned head. Aroma of sweet dark malts with a whiff of whisky.Smooth silky and vinous mouthfeel. Taste is moderate sweet, dark red fruits, chocolate and coffee,lots of smooth whisky, very well integrated whisky, layer upon layer of good tasty elements, lingering dark fruits with a light alcohol burn, impressive.

Bottle @ Aarhus tasting. Almost black with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate, lots of cocoa and wood. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Sweet and rather bitter finish. 110614

Craft Clerkenwell 2nd Birthday Bonanza! Keg. Opaque dark brown - black beer, little tan head. Sweet whisky nose, little minerals. Palate is smooth and slightly viscous with mild minerally carbonation. Smooth dark malt, thin cream. Whisper of dark chocolate and coffee. Sublte medicinal vibe. Smooth and mellow whisky. Light touch of dark fruits. Finishes smooth and semi dry with a little alcohol spice.

Keg at The Southern. Black with a brown head. Chocolate and whisky to the nose. Flavour is a symphony. Burnt wood, Ashy toast, liquorice and vanilla. The whisky is very prominent as well, almost like half a shot has been stirred in to my glass. The alcohol is at first integrated and then becomes quite evident. Cracking beer. One of the highlights of my week in Edinburgh.
