4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared thanks to Sjogro. Black with no head just some big bubbles. Loads of roasted nuts up front, coffee, rum, young scotch whisky, oily, big red wine but a classy strong Bordeaux one. Some light paper and weird leaves in the finish. Over medium sweet with roasted bitterness. Full bodied with no carbonation and slick oily feel. Nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle courtesy of Colin cheers Colin! consumed at home and shared with dad Friday 7th November 2014 Very dark brown in the pour with light beige bubbles. Some dark malts and a good dose of dark chocolate, mollasses and ecen a dab of coffee in mouth. The aroma is similar but with the familiar whiff of spirit. The barrel ageing is clearly evident and whilst many whisky barrel aged beers do little for me this is a little understated and certainly not too harsh or raw, yes you get it, but its well done not overdone. Thanks again to Colin. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared at Leightons house. Bottle thanks to LKS. Jet black / red hues. No head. Aroma is hot alcohol, solvent, some berry fruit. Flavour is vanilla, smooth caramel, praline. Fairly smooth. Palate is semi sweet lowish carbonation. Berry. Flavour is better than aroma.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at home in London - picked up from the brewery quite a while back. Bottled on 16.11.12. Pours oily black with a somewhat flimsy, bubbly brown-beige head that slowly fluffs up a bit into a flimy cream.
Lovely aroma, loaded with diverse chocolate aspects, plenty of gooey milk chocolate, also some hard baking cocoa, nips of burnt wood, vanilla, dirt. Medium to big sweet flavor without being remotely cloying, with lots more chocolate character, dried fruits, grape, earth, hot cocoa, vanilla pods, very slight charred wood, ash, oily chocolate, low but adequate scorched earth bitterness.
Full bodied yet soft, with fine carbonation and oily texture. Lightly warming on the finish with more dynamic chocolate presence, charred wood, red berries, slight tannic dryness, rounded vanilla, bittersweet cocoa, softened roasted malts. Tremendously well integrated and nuanced. Nicely balanced and not at all boozy. Exceptionally drinkable. World-class.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Keg at LCBF, deep dark brown with a fine crema, nose is wet wooden barrel, a touch of coffee, a hint of gravy. Palate is kind of soupy, with burnt treacle, gravy, something red-fruity, and a dry bitterness. A bit too woody and musty for my liking. Maybe it needs to smooth out more?

Keg at LCBF as ’Imperial Brown Stout (Guernsey)’. Black, small tan head. Aroma is very chocolatey, some yeast, smoke (peat?). Body is medium, a touch of carbonation, quite foamy. Taste is well rounded, subtly sweet, cocoa, lightly smokey, dry finish with some raspberry. Nicely balanced, and very drinkable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the Kernel Brewery. I’ve had this for about 6 months or so. Maybe more. Opens nicely with some wispy aromas. Opaque very dark brown, tan bubbles at the rim, nice lacing, very oily. Nose is dark chocolate but mainly a lot of rich dark fruit. Plum, dried date, dried fig, sultana. Some slight salty molasses or Marmite, alcoholic with a slight cognac or liqueur tone. Taste is rich malty, lots dark fruit, plum, dried fruit, date, fig, sultana. Lots of alcohol, some acidic roasted malt bitterness, wood barrel, alcohol burn, dark chocolate and cocoa powder, caramel, and some lingering black coffee. Also has the salty, malty, yeast extract/Marmite saltiness in there.
