3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 ml bottle from Ales By Mail, served in a snifter glass. Bottled on 07-10-13 (9.8% ABV) Pitch black, with absolutely no light passing through, and an average, even with an aggressive pour, brown frothy head. On the nose dark fruits, bitter dark chocolate, coffee powder, light alchool. Rich and velvey smooth, moderately bitter with not much sweetness to speak of, more coffee than chocolate in the taste. Tiny bit of astringency and hoppy presence in the aftertaste. Unbelievably easy to drink for the ABV, no trace of booze at all. Soft carbonation, medium to full body, slightly oily texture. Perhaps not a mindblowing RIS, but certainly pleasent and well executed. I wouldn’t mind having access to these kind of beers in 1856 ;-)
