(The Kernel Imperial Brown Stout London 1856) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 10.2%
Totally black in colour, small dark brown head, good density and retention. Medium lacing left around the glass.
Nice aroma, roasted malts, chocolate, hops, light acidity at the beginning, light vanilla too, a hint of the alcohol.
Taste is as great as the aroma, again roasted malts, coal, ash, chocolate, vanilla, wood, alcohol on the finish but without becoming boozy. Mild bitterness.
Medium body, soft carbonation.
Very good and it is still young.
NIce dryness on the palate.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a bottle at Pub Edward, Quebec City. Pours a really dark brown with no head and no lacing, looking completely still. Nose is of roasted coffe, dark chocolate. Taste is of not quite sweet and features roasted malt at its best, never ashy. It is also lightly bitter, really nice. More chocolate. Body is full and mouthfeel really smooth with a really light carb. Alcohol is nowhere to be felt. Overall a really nice imperial stout, not quite meeting the impossibly high expectations that were set but still really solid! (Maybe it is because it was served in an inappropriate glass? ;))

pours unclear very rich and dark brownn with a small beige cap showing a somewhat little retention and lacing. dense bitter chocolate - incredible roasted profile - never ashy or overdone, fresh coffee, roasted and never burnt caramel, lightly sweet and dark dried cherries, some dark dried prunes too, earthy and soft resinous notes, hint of smoke, pepper, warming alcohol. low carbonation, medium body - oily and thick, warming and softly earthy-resinous-peppery finish. a very good brew - i need to try its BA declensions, NOW.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Bottle) Very dark colour, almost black, with lasting dense brown head. Malty, roasted nose with cocoa, chocolate cake, strong black coffee, molasses, liquorice and dark fruit. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark chocolate, strong black coffee, liquorice, dried fruit, molasses and a generous coffee/cacao bitterness in the finish. Full body, with velvety texture. Starts quite sweet, dries out towards the end. Alcohol is evident, but stays in the background. Very well balanced for its strength. Lovely stuff!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap in London! Dark brown pour, stubborn brown head and lace. Viscous body calls to me as I swish it around in the glass.
Deeply roasted malts, baker's chocolate, toffee, fudge brownies. Pleasant boozy warmth as it descends. Plenty of depth, highly refined, reminds me of a great stout. Color me impressed.
