Bottle thanks to Dave. Pours out pitch black topped with a nice tan head. Aroma was of coffee, milk chocolate, roast malts and a light hop. Taste is much as the aroma lots of coffee and sweetness.

On tap in London! Dark brown pour, stubborn brown head and lace. Viscous body calls to me as I swish it around in the glass.

Deeply roasted malts, baker's chocolate, toffee, fudge brownies. Pleasant boozy warmth as it descends. Plenty of depth, highly refined, reminds me of a great stout. Color me impressed.

Argonian (277) - Athens, GREECE - AUG 20, 2014
Bottle. Pours a beautiful black body, with a minimal light brown head that diminishes quickly, leaving a fair lace. Strong notes of dark chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Medium to heavy bitter taste, medium bitter aftertaste, with the same notes of coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Oily texture, medium bodied, average carbonation. A black, bitter bomb, I prefer my imperial stouts a little sweeter, but still enjoyable.

330ml bottle (Pudel, Tallinn) at 9.8%
Incredibly chocolate cakey aroma, even down to the chocolate cream icing. Glassy black, very brief fizzy brown head. Smooth palate, a little slick, but just a bit of carbonation tries to cut through that. Very intense ashiness, at first highly astringent. Decent roast aspects too, which are fairly pleasant once you’re past the ashiness. Fair amount of heat to it too, but it’s not quite boozy. A bit overdone, but not bad. I’m definitely no fan of ashy burntness.

Once again a ridiculously strong beer gets ridiculously high ratings. Come on think subtlety for a change! OK, taken dispationately it has a roast aroma; distinct but perhaps a little disappointing in its intensity. Thick oily palate and a head the colour of Norah Batty’s stockings. Flavour is intense but all in the front of the mouth and finish is a little light for its gravity. It’s a good beer but better than Hook Norton Bitter, Fuller’s Hock or any number of excellent American IPAs?

wvhoran (190) - Rotterdam, NETHERLANDS - AUG 16, 2014
Bottle. Pretty much black colour, with a creamy tan head. The aroma is warm dark fruit, toffee, molasses, chocolate. The flavour is again toffee, with a good sweetness with licorice, leaning to bitter and almost lightly tart dark fruit notes and molasses. Creamy texture. Lingering roast malt bitterness. Really balanced and lovely.

Dark mahogany, almost black. Thin sandy coloured head. Aroma is surprisingly green, with booze soaked dark fruits waiting in the background. Taste is mild coffee, dark fruit, alcohol with a long dark chocolate finish.
