We have brewed a beer to commemorate the birth of our son. It is a strong dark beer which hopefully will keep until he is of age to drink it. Brewed in collaboration with Phil Lowry, Simon Siemsgluess and Chrigl Luthy. Bottled.

Pretty much everything Kernel do I love. This was the exception. Way too much alcohol burn. I ended up pouring half of it down the sink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Thanks Benjii. Black with a thin tan head. Big chocolately aroma, molasses, burnt sugar. Similar taste, lots of chocolate, lots of roasted character. Quite sweet with a bitter finish. Lovely

Bottle from 29.09.10 marked at 12.5% thanks to cquiroga. Pours with a glass coating deep brown hued body with minimal head. Aromas are pungent in the glass. Huge alcohol, raisin, brown sugar, chocolate, sugar cookies, and biscuity malt. Flavors are bitter, raisins, cocoa, dark fruits, chocolate, alcohol and leather. Syrupy on the mouth, warming, bitter, bready and roasty with light carbonation.

Bottle @ home, shared with Joes. Pitch black, opaque color. Decent sized brown head that’s quickly gone. Smell coffee, smoked, bacon, liquorice. Taste coffee, alcohol, lightly smoked bacon. Didn’t really like it at First, but after warming up it gets softer and a little sweeter which in this case makes the beer better. Medium but soft carbonation, full body.

Bottle. Strong coffee and smoke aroma. Warming alcohol. Sharp edge of alcohol, to be precise. Not properly balanced.

Bottle from the Kernel Brewery (bottled on 20/9/10). It pours opaque black, with a thin tan head. The nose is velvety chocolate, smoke, roasted malt, salted caramel and coffee. The taste is rich chocolate, touch of soy sauce, salted caramel, roasted malt, rich-roast coffee, burnt tire, ash and lingering alcohol warmth, with a very long bitter-roasted finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and well balanced. Great stuff.

Small brown head. Opaque black body. Roasty earthy chocolatey aroma with mealy notes. Dry-sweet cocoa vanilla and honey taste with peppery resiny notes. Fullish body. Hot mouthfeel. Dryish chocolate, earth, and pepper aftertaste with resiny honey notes. (0.33l bottle from beermerchants.com.)

In bottle at home with Colin. A black beer with a thin, dark tan head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, chocolate and caramel. Not too sweet and nicely bitter. Flavours of espresso coffee, chocolate and roasty malt. A nice bitter roasty malt and cocoa linger also. Mild carbonation and CO2 prickle with an oily mouth-feel. Very nice indeed.
