Bottle, courtesy of winning a bet with StoreMy; cheers mate. ;-) Pours a deep, near-black mahogany brown with a large rocky light khaki-hued head. Nose is grassy melon tones, peaches, hints of pine and dark malts. Some faint chocolate and nutty tones complimenting the hops. Nice. Taste is brown malty nut tones, grains, pine and hints of herbal grassy notes. Some strange metal-like hints in the back draws back the impression a bit, but otherwise this is a pleasant creation. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Nice enough, but fails to go the extra mile somehow.

Room temp bottle from last year. 5.6%. Pours a thin caramel black like coke. Smell is not great - musty and yeasty. Flavour is slight resin, a little mint. Not bitter but dry. Nice enough.

Dark, muddy brown, no head; great hoppy aroma of pine, lush dark fruit, chocolate and coffee; smooth, lightly roasted flavour with dark fruit and lots of dusty hops; some soft chocolate too; quite dry; a touch of mint in the long finish; very nice indeed.

330ml bottle from the Cheese & Wine Shop, Darlington. Black-brown colour, tan head that diminishes and aroma of coffee, smoke & roasted malt. The taste is initially pine, then sweetish roasted malt & raisins, with an underlying dry bitterness through to the finish. Smooth medium bodied and soft carbonation. Quite drinkable.

33cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. An opaque magohany brown pour with a trace of beige head; rich chocolate malt aroma; in the mouth, the hops dominate at first, giving lots of astringent pine, before a milky stout-like body; the finish is again dominated by the hops and some unbalanced alcohol, but there is also a residual malty sweetness, which is, I guess, why this is called a Brown Ale in the first place. Overall I don’t think this is a very successful deviation from what Kernel do best - hoppy pale ales.

A bit thin and plain but nice hop presence and a solid malt backbone nonetheless. Tastes like a homebrew and thats not a bad thing. Overall nice beer.

Bottle courtesy of mr_h. Muddy dark brown colour, not much head. Spicy minty hop aroma & flavour. Bitter hoppy aftertaste. A bit flat. A very hoppy brown ale.
