In bottle, thanks to Sev : ) Pours a dark brown colour with a fair light tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasty malt, pineapple and mixed lemon / orange peel. Similar flavours with a little vegetal character and grapefruit to finish. Coffee and roasted malts are prominent again also. Mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Nice but I prefer #1.

Bottle from Mr Lawrence Wine Merchants, Brockley. Dark brown pour with a beige head. Black cherry and blackberry aroma. Quite a dark fruit explosion up the nostrils. A hint of chocolate in there too. Blackcurrant, licorice toffee and bitter fruit flavour. Dry fruity finish. Intriguing.

33cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Deep mahogany in colour with a ring of tan head; the aroma is slightly musty but full of resinous hops; smooth in the mouth with rich, deeply roasted, malts mixing well with the strong woody hops - leaving hints of chocolate, tobacco and leafy green vegetables; the finish has treacle toffee and wood bark.

Dark black pour not much head, malt and pine with cocoa and slight citrus in the nose. Taste is extremely balanced and almost perfect in my eyes, this goes also for the palate which was smooth and soft with a nice body. Overall one of my favorite Black IPA’s.

Opened the bottle, but no sound. Needless to say this was as flat as an iron. So, no head, no lacing. A slight roasty aroma with a putrid sour aroma reminiscent of vomit. Tastes like sweaty armpits. Can’t finish this one. Must have been a bad bottle, but damn it is nasty.

Bottle 330ml. @ home.

[ Courtesy of Fin ]. Unclear matt dark brown colour with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, chocolate, licorice - salty licorice, heavy hoppy, orange - citrus. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20111027]

Erm, black with slim cappuccino foam. Stupendous, tropical Starburst aroma awash with mango, blackcurrant and ladies’ armpit over a peppering of burnt toast. Well-stewed, blackcurranty flavour with a burnt nuttiness and lick of booze to finish. If I was being fussy I’d say it lacked a bit of heft. Bitter linger. Good- but then you knew that.
