Bottle. Dark brown beer with a very rich lasting beige/brown head. Hoppy aroma, fruity, spicy, grapefruit and some chocolate. Hoppy flavor, metal, fruity, figs, perfume, chocolate, dry grassy, some grapefruit. Bitter hop finish with metal and perfume.

Bottle at the brewery, London. Pours black-brown with a foamy, off-white head. Earth, pine and light roast in the aroma. Medium sweet flavor, strong grassy hops, charred malt roastiness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Good condition. Dry, dirty hop finish, char, pine, grass, some citrus. Very good. Some woody earth lingers. Good stuff.

Nice lemon aroma with a hint of espresso . The colour black with a yeast haze . Very dormant flavour of citra hops , but balanced roast malt flavour , perhaps a hint of vanilla in the background .

Bottle at home. Red-black, with thin off-white head. Lovely nose, honey, melon and pineapple, possibly also even caramel. Very interesting flavours, like a hoppy porter, with honey and floral hop flavours balanced against a dry, bitter coffee finish, with a touch of oatmeal. Very nice indeed.

Dark brown color, with creamy beige creamy head. Very nice hop aroma, fruity, overwhelming any kind of roasted malt; there is also some yeast. Smooth mouthfeel; chocolate flavor with roasted malt; strong bitterness, with just a dash of yeast and fruits, and infinitesimal liquorice.
Excellent example for the style.

Bottle. Pours a hazy brown color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter licorice aroma. Fruity malty hoppy bitter licorice flavor with hitns of citrus. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter finish.

Bottle from Bottle Shop Canterbury. Now I was one of the first to embrace this style but also one of the first to fall out of love with it. There was just too much going on. A lack of harmony. So I approach this beer with a levep of scepticism. Black looking beer with thick dark beige head. A good lokking beer no doubt. Citrusy hops on the aroma are aluring. Yes well the malt is not the roasted variety that some have usex and it is without doubt a tasty beer and pushed back a certain amount of my prejudice. Its smooth with just a dash of ash. Its good. Yes a hoppy what? A hoppy dark ale? Smooth hoppy and rather good.

Clear dark brown red colour with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, heavy hoppy, pine, orange - citrus, grapefruit. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and heavy bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120101]

330ml Bottle - Black with a tan head. Soap, pine, liquorice and chocolate in the aroma. Hoppy, roasted and slightly soapy taste with notes of chocolate, liquorice and roasted malt.
