Palme (2234) - Bergen, NORWAY - JUL 16, 2012
0.33l bottle (7.1% ABV) from beermerchants.com A deep dark brown one with a massive and lasting beige head that’s nicely lacing down the sides of the glass. On the aroma it’s really hoppy with citrus, ripe fruits but it also has a really nice - but subtle sweet chocolate thing going on. It smells really nice. It has a really slick texture with a average big-bubbly carbonation level. Flavors are almost roasted-hoppy ans also a bit sweet with dark malts, subtle chocolate, some alcohol, strong bitter - almost peppery finish and aftertaste with a watery mouthfeel in the aftertaste, but the flavor just sticks around forever. Mildly dry all the way also actually. A strange experience, but I liked it. Again a good one again from the Kernel. 18.06.2012

Bottled. Murky orange brown with a dense beige head. Light roast, licorice, herbal, fruity hops in the nose. Lively mouthfeel. Flavor is dark malty, roast, citrus, a whiff of coffe, quite dry long, lingering bitter finish.

Blairgus (1749) - California, USA - DEC 14, 2012
14 dec 2012, bottle. Dark brown. Too dark to say but it looks a bit hazy. Nose is alcohol, oatmeal cookies, grassy hops. Thin body and fizzy. Some pineapple, bitter grapefruit rind, very bitter finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

_angst_ (1743) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JUL 9, 2012
Kernel Black Rye 330 ml bottle bought @ The Bottle Shop Canterbury. Pours hazy dark brown, almost black, with a huge frothy and fluffy brownish gray head that is rather quick to dissipate while leaving some thick trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with caramel, dark bread, grapefruit juice, pine, grapefruit peal, orange peal, lemon balm, dark roast coffee, toffee, chocolate, slightly perfumed tobacco and hints of wood and dill. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter and tiny sour with grapefruit juice, green grapes, dark rye bread, pine, dark roast coffee, grape zest, earthy tobacco, orange peal, roasted malts,  lemon zest, burnt caramel, wood, fresh grass, resin, wet soil and subtle hints of liquorice fudge and fresh green herbs. Mouthfeel is smooth, tiny dry, tart and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter and sour with grapefruit juice, dark roast coffee, dark bread, heavily roasted malts, grapefruit peal, grape zest, pine, grass and green herbs. Another extremely solid beer from The Kernel.

Beersiveknown (1617) - NORTHERN IRELAND - JUN 12, 2012
Bottle from beer merchants. Pours murky brown with fluffy tan head. Pithy grapefruit and resinous pine nose, sherbert grapefruit with a slightly chalk chocolate finish. Fairly bitter numbing the mouth, well carbonated.

330ml bottle from the brewery. Very lively out of the bottle; even once half had been poured the remaining beer in the bottle continued to froth towards the top. In the glass it’s a deep & murky looking brown colour with a huge, dense, lasting & lacing light tan head. Heady grapefruit, pine, kiwi & peach to the fore on the nose backed by delicate roasted malt & coffee tones. The malt component is much more prominent on the tongue though never becoming more dominant than the hop element; roasted malt, coffee & chocolate counterbalanced by pine, grapefruit & resinous hops. Medium body, medium carbonation - quite crisp, dry & fresh on the palate - some warmth in the throat & finishing with a lingering hop/malt bittersweetness. Big hops in the Kernel way and decent dark malt interplay. Not a style for everyone but it floats my boat & Kernel have done it very well to my mind on this occasion. 7.1%

Bottle at cgarvieuk’s Danish Invasion tasting. End of the bottle, so my pour was mainly yeast! Nice nose though, definite spiced rye characteristic and massive pine hops. Similar flavours, slightly chocolate, some sweet coffee and a nice resinous bitter finish. This is good.

Bottle on the links. Brown with a white. Lovely aroma of citrus and tropical fruit. Flavour has some malty chocolate and coffee resting on the outskirts of a lovely hoppiness. Mango and pineapple. Again, a little yeasty but still delicious.
