Bottle from bottle-shop.co.uk. Very dark brown color with huge frothy beige head towering over my glass. Aroma of grapefruit hops, pines, resins, roasted malt. Taste, grapefruit, pines, roasted malt, tropical fruits, resin. Nice long hoppy finish. Very tasty black IPA.

Fruity aroma, malty too. Quite crisp, carbonation high. Biting bitterness perhaps a bit OTT. Started good, but was too aggressive. Prefer most US black IPAs that I’ve had to this, as they tend to have higher drinkability.

Not an IPA fan but this I like, the usual over flowery bitterness is just not there, light and fresh tasting you would never realize the abv from the flavour

Bottle at home, 16th September 2012. Pours a huge head, irritating. Similar to the other Kernel black ipas. Good stuff

Scopey (6659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 2, 2012
Bottle at home, from the Kernel Brewery. It pours very dark brown, with a medium beige head. The nose is roasted malt, charcoal, earth, zesty citrus, bitter-sweet aspect and pine. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, earth, pine, coffee, citrus pith, grapefruit and some dark fruit perhaps, with a bitter, roasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Quite a lot of citrus character coming through. A solid black IPA.

EdKing (1834) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 23, 2012
Bottle from The Kernel brewery. Cloudy dark brown with a hint of rustiness, off white big foam head. Nose is big pine, musty malt, tropical fruit, papaya, mango, lime citrous. Taste is pine, bitter green hops, eucalyptus, citrous sour, bit of the tropical fruit but it’s drowned out by stronger bitter flavours. There’s also a dryness, chalky on tongue, earthy, stoney. This is a strong bold black ipa.

Murky brown body with a big brown head. Great hoppy aroma with pine as well as roasted coffee. Full, sticky palate. Very nice flavour, sweet with black chocolate and bitter with pine. Excellent.

Bottle from Rehills in Newcastle. A very dark black-brown cloudy beer with orange marmalade, tropical fruit, spicy red fruit and a sweet and slight biscuity finish. FANTASTIC!! Bottle Conditioned.

At Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Muddy brown with a small off-white head. Aroma dominated by citrus hops, with a roasted note in the background. Dry and hoppy flavour with a good bitter finish
