Bottle, thanks to _angst_. Black beer with a rich lasting offwhite/beige head. Malty milky aroma, vanilla, lemongrass, bitter hops, grapes, chocolate, cocoa powder, caramel, perfume notes. Hoppy caramel flavor, metal, grapefruit, citrus, metal notes, pears, chocolate, cocoa powder, hay, some lactose. Good beer but not as powerful as most Kernel beers.

330ml bottle as The Kernel IPA Black Simcoe, Columbus, Centennial

Bottled 05.02.14 - Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth white head. Aroma of roasty malts, grassy hops, fruity notes, citrus and coffee. Taste is smooth, roasty and dark fruity with some grass, citrus, coffee and licorice. Finish is roasty, hoppy and lingering bitter with some citrus, fruits and grass. Pretty tasty black IPA, but missing that special something.

33 cL bottle at home. Pours hazy dark brown with a large off-white head. Aroma has a nice balance between the roasted malts, coffee and the fruitiness. Mainly red fruits and tropical fruits. Taste also has a nice balance between the roasted malts and fruitiness with a medium bitter finish. Medium body and carbo. Lovely black IPA.

Aroma: citrus, floral hops. Appearance: dark black, small beige head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: medium carbonation, turns quite bitter towards the long-finish. Overall: great black IPA, palate could be more complex. Pint at Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico.

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Mediummsized beige brown foamy head on top of a black colored beer. Aroma is a very well balanced mix between black and IPA. Also bit floral, manure and even some sweets. Delicious! Flavour is roast, chocolate, hops, flowers, bitters, plants, crispy, some yeast, herbs, light coffee, some fruit like apricot, peach and some malt roast. Delicious! Aftertaste is nice roast and coffee chocolate with some bitters, herbs, flowers and grass. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel and texture and a medium to more fuller bodied beer. Delicious! World class!

33 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK via Beer Ritz Leeds. Cola appearance, bright hop aroma. Smooth at first, sweet malt then transitions to a heavy intense resinous ending. Long and bitter, some liquorice and soy come through at the end.

JKaranka (35) - Cardiff, WALES - FEB 23, 2013
Dark dark brown to black with creamy (but not very long lasting) beige head. Aroma of fruit, mainly dried, some citrus and roast. Flavour follows the nose, with a good dose of bitterness from the hops, a good amount of citrus as well that turns more caramelly and fruity as the roast component kicks in. Must add that this beer is not very roasty, it’s just a gentle complement to the sweeter malt and fruity hops. Some alcohol. Very nice, easy to drink. Doesn’t feel as heavy as it could be.
