Picked this up on a quick run for Diabolus. Really loving black IPA, need to explore more. This is delicious. I’m serving this as a pre steak and chips drink, which will be followed by a Floretine and an afternoon in the company of Raiseonline. An inevitable defeat at Citeh is also on the cards but more beers like this and I won’t care...

Bottle from the legend of Kris Wines. Good to see some of the Kernel backlog being remade! The pour’s deep brown with a massive tan head. The nose is licorice, charred wood, some sweet pineapple and bitter chocolate. Hints of grass. The taste is mild fruit salad, a bit of salt, driftwood. Light and dry grassy finish. Nice rustic, earthy charred grain notes. Light body, smooth. Overall, another solid effort from the lords of Bermondsey.

Bottle from bottle-shop.co.uk. Hazy very dark brown color with thick frothy beige head. Strong pine and grapefruit aroma with tropical fruits. Roasted malt, coffee, liquorice, pines, grapefruit hops in aroma. Dusty, strong hoppy finish. Delicious.

Pours cloudy mahogany with a smallish tan head. Aroma is sweet roasted malt. Taste isn’t quite so sweet as the smell might suggest. It’s got herbal hoppiness, roasted malt, toasted oak and coffee

330ml bottle. Black amber colour, foamy tan head and fruity hop grapefruit aroma with hints of chocolate and roasted malt. Fizzy bitterness with tangy hop taste smothered by burnt malt and earthy coffee notes, followed by a dry lingering back of the throat bitterness. Quite drinkable.

(Bottle) Pours dark, dark brown with a creamy, nougat coloured head. The aroma holds a typical Kernel hop profile alongside clean, subtle, and balanced roast. Hints of salt liquorice, dew, grass and tropical fruits. The flavour is light sweet to dry, medium to heavily bitter and light acidic with notes of soft roast and grapefruity/grassy hops. The mouthfeel is clean and light tart with a light carbonation. Mega grapefruity finish.. Light to medium carbonation.

Bottle bought @ beermerchants. Pours dark brown with a rather small frothy and bubbly mocha head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is slightly sweet, malty and hoppy with roasted malts, grapefruit juice, dried apricots, pineapple, salty liquorice, resinous wood, black pepper and hints of moist soil. Taste is very tiny sweet and bitter with rotated malts, grapefruit juice, resinous wood, dark roast coffee, grapefruit rinds, tangerines, freshly cut grass, green grapes, orange peal and hints of moist soil. Mouthfeel is round, astringent, very tiny tart and mediu, bodied. Finish is bitter with roasted malts, grapefruit rinds, green grapes, dark roast coffee, freshly cut grass and orange peal. A plain simple tasty BIPA!

33cl bottle from the brewery. Nice off-white head with a solid stand. Spotty lacing. Opaque dark-brown body. Dark malts and dark fruits to the nose. Delicate taste character containing chocolate malts, berries and piny hops on a slightly roasted backbone. Dry basic bitter end.

Bottle at home - 16/09/12. Pours very dark brown verging on black with a thinnish tan head that retains. Pine, hops, tropical fruits on the nose, a little cocoa. Taste follows, mango, sweet grapefruit, tangerines, light chocolate. Medium bodied, moderate soft carbonation leading to a bitter dry finish with sweet tones. Good stuff.
