3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at monthly tasting @ De Molen. 6.9% abv, BBE 07-07-13. Clear dark brown to reddish pour. Aroma is fruity, some tea, a hint of pine. Flavor is bitter, somewhat malty for an IPA, very nice balance.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
[Bottle from The Bottle Shop, Canterbury] Dark brown with a moderate beige head and a slight fizz. It’s dry, but leaves some stickiness on your lips. Nice fresh floral aroma with plenty of pine and some grapefruit hints. In the mouth the flowers rather take over - almost too much so at times, giving the impression of drinking pot pourri. It’s all about the hoppy IPA, and the "black" part contributes little more than a faint roasty bitterness in the background. On balance, I did really enjoy this - but there’s room for improvement, and it’s not a patch on Thornbridge Raven.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Citrus and pine resin on the nose, well carbonated. Fruity bitterness up front with a slight suggestion of chocolate malt. Dark mahogany, beige foam head.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
First impression was what sort of IPA is this black’, until I noticed the small print. Smells like IPA which to me is hops, and more hops. Great taste, bitter ale and sweetness in snap balance. To be IPA the interesting thing is that the main aromas are around malt family. I’m not sure if this is a great example of this type beer, but as a beer this is good.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Bottle at home, 12th November. Pours to form a reasonable head, black in colour, hoppy fruity and aromatic in aroma, this is following through in the taste which is a perfect balance and mouthful. Fantastic beer to savour

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A novel spin on the IPA. Grassy and aromatic, as Kernel’s work often is, but I prefer the Proper Job (St Austell) and the Raven (Thornbridge) as far as IPAs go. Here’s my review http://theguestale.com/2011/07/beer-review-kernel-

Bottle @ Dutchdrebus, thanks for sharing. Dark brown, opaque color, decent sized off-white head. Smell fruits, grapefruit and hops, but especially very fruity! Taste hops, citrus, grapefruit, bitter and again very fruity. Medium to high carbonation, medium to full body.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught at CASK Pub & Kitchen Pre-GBBF Meet the brewer event, London. Almost opaque dark brown color. The aromas and flavors of lemon, raisins, chocolate and pepper. Bittersweet, strong bitterness. Once again this demonstrates that roasty malts does not pair well with citrusy hops.
