Poured deep brown with a delicious pillowy-creamy tan head. Very rich aroma with pines, juniper and herbs, fruits, tropical fruits, cocoa and some roasted grains. Smooth mouthfeel with balanced, aromatic resin and pine, grapefruits, caramel and some liquerice.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2014 Bottle from The Beerhive. 6.3% ABV. Dense dark brown body with a tight tan head. Thick lacing coats the full glass. Aroma of coffee, plum, cherry and pine. Flavour of red fruits, milky coffee, wood and roasted malt. Dry, tangy finish. Medium body with a slick, oily texture. Medium carbonation. A wonderful beer that benefits from the slightly lower ABV. It tastes like a cross between a Black IPA and a hoppy Amber Ale.

Pours Black with a slight brown/reddish hue in the light and a decent tight head. Aroma is a bit of citrus but heavier on the roasted malt, coffe and cocao. Taste is similar as it starts off with a citrus pine flavor, then goes a bit soapy for a second, an dends with coffee, malted cocoa with the pine sap coming back with the aftertaste. Palate is lighter than I expected. Could be richer and a bit more effervescent than I wanted. Still very good and overall one of my favorite in the style. I am a bit biased with the Kernel but know tha tthey do a great job and continue to get better.

Bottle. Darkest red/brown with head that fades to ring. Aroma of pine, chocolate and coffee. Similar taste, hops are a little soapy, possibly faded a bit. Smooth with a bitter finish. A good example of the style

355mL from De Bierkoning in Amsterdam. Deep black pour, clear, with a larger beige head. Settles down decently. Cheesier hop nose with sweeter cheesecake. Taste is bitter dark chocolate with raspberry and strawberry tanginess. Some blueberry tanginess. Sharper with tea leaf bitterness. Not too bad. Similar tea tannic profile to the Pacific Jade IPA. Porter in character. No dry hop character. Quite roasty with some sugar and tart berry medley.

[4262-20120120] 330mL bottle. Toasted breadcrumb hops aroma. Hazy, dark brown amber body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. More toasted caramel malt in the flavour has a lingering roastiness. Medium body. Nice, drinkable. (7/4/7/4/15) 3.7

33 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK via Beer Ritz Leeds. Deep brown, thin head. Bright hop aroma, some brown sugar in the background, but mostly an upfront resin. Relatively smooth, more resin, and a long bittersweet veg and caramel finish.

(bottle, 33cl) Dark brown colour with a medium-sized and slightly foamy head. Piney and mildly fruity hoppy aroma with delicately dark and roasted malt in the background, accompanied by traces of cacao, honey and wax. Moderately bitter flavour, medium bodied with a modest carbonation. According to its abv relatively light-weighted malty base with roasty accents and an aromatic fruity and piney hoppy blend, leading into a lasting aroma hoppy finish with shades of cacao and roasty flavous. A very nice hybrid beer. 11.I.12
