Színe ködösen mély sötétbarna, közepes világosbarna, finom habbal, amely vékonyan megállapodik az üledéket képező főzet tetején. Illata grépfrútosan gyümölcsös. Aromáját az előbbi gyümölcsösség mellett a gyantás komló uralja, melyek mögött finoman meghúzódik némi karamell és pörkölt maláta. Hosszan tartó, a torkot erőteljesen kiszárító, nagyon enyhén melengető finisét citrusok, gyanta és keserű csokoládés felhangok kísérik. Aromákban gazdag, könnyedén csúszó és élvezetes itóka.

Draught at The Kernel - Saturday, August 20th. Murky brown-black with a lasting creamy off-white head (3-). Solid "C" hop citrus and pine aroma with a very light juicy-cocoa malt backbone, light alcohol. Taste follows, more resin, lots of citrus, finishes with toasted spruce - solod body, nice carbonation, medium-long conifer finish with building alcoho. Yet another great brew from Kernel!

Bottle (33 cl) from the brewery. Dark brown, medium beige head. Caramel and chocolate aroma, perfumy, piney and citrusy hops. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Medium dry with medium bitterness.

Cask at the Rake, 9th Jan 2011 and many bottles since. Deep chestnut brown with a small persistent line of magnolia head. Somewhat earthy hop nose. Flavour has dark fruits, leather, resin. As it warms, caramel and raisin come through more on the nose. Really drinkable, really enjoyable. Great stuff.

Bottled. A hazy brown beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of straw, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and hops. I find it boring. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Bottled. Thanks to chriso Muddy brown colour with tan head. Pretty good stuff here. Woody, hoppy, toasty with notes of cinnamon roll. Good dark malty, yet slightly light bodied with woody hops and cinnamon roll again. Low-medium bitterness.

Cask. Pours black, with a white head. Hoppy, herbal aroma, roasted malts, grapefruit, juniper. Dry, medium bodied, medium to high bitterness. Very hoppy taste, roasted malts, grapefruit, spruce, grapefruit, hints of smoke. (2011-08-04)

Bottle at the brewery. Nearly completely black, huge tan head. Aroma of dark roast coffee, dark cocoa, Christmas trees. Taste is burnt espresso, dark chocolate liqueur. Very silly and wonderful mouthfeel. Exactly what a black IPA ought to be.

Bottle at 7.2% from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Delicious smell - jelly tots and sugared hops. Mouthfeel is pretty thin, but the flavour is pretty good: crispy hops - rich and fresh; followed by a gentle roasty throat coat, which lingers nicely. Very light for the abv, but very tasty indeed.

Keg at CPK, Kernel event. Nice fruit, med hops, not too bitter, citrus, tropical, a bit of rounded sweet chocolate and dark plums. I suppose that I wouldn’t know it was black if i was blind. Barely dark. Wow, this is a black IPA that I like, not just a raunchily hopped porter.
