Bottle at Port Street Beer House, Manchester. Black (or very dark reddish brown) with an off-white to beige head. Hoppy! Aroma of pine, citrus, herb and malt with some roasty notes and caramel. Sweet and hoppy with a nice citrussy bitterness in the finish. The hoppy IPA aromas is quite dominating, the black parts are more modest. Refreshing and delicious! (2013-01-26)

Wow, what an amazing beer. Delicious taste of smoothly roasted malt, coffee, grass, soft fruitiness and a nice countering bitterness. Really good.

Grey brown beer opaque, weak head nice carbonation. Hoppy smell, grapefruit, resin and flowery. Subtle fruitiness, caramel. Light tones of chocolate. Bitter sour with a delicious watery oily finish. Coffee bitterness, chocolate and hoppy resin, peels. Long taste development, fruity without sweeteness.

Bottle. Dark brown colour with a creamy tan had. The aroma has distinct hop notes of grapefruit and lemon, as well as more peach and mango notes. The flavour is hoppy with peach and grapefruit, as well as a nice roast malt character. Good bitterness, slightly creamy. Very good.

Bottled from de Molen Beershop mentioning the use of Simcoe, Columbus, Centennial, bottled 05.02.14 BB 05.08.14, large sample, served in a TeKu. Dark brown color, medium light brown head. Aroma is quite hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, blackcurrant, roasted malts, slight candy, bit grassy, slight coffee. Quite bitter in taste, some chewy roast as well. Great balanced black IPA, which goes more towards IPA but with the necessary touch of roast. Lovely stuff.

330 ml bottle from Les Vignerons, served in a nonic half pint glass. Bottled on 05-02-14. Dark brown with some reddish tinges, quite hazy, with a small, bubbly and not very persistent beige head. Roasted and hoppy aroma, notes of freshly burnt coffee beans, bitter dark chocolate, vanilla and liquorice, and then citrusy hops, resin and pine needles. More IPAish than BlackAleish in the mouth, solid and quite high level of bitterness, tiny astringency, lovely and persistent fruity taste. Almost like a chewing on a strawberry and orange candy. Resinous and hoppy aftertaste, not much malty/roasted/chocolaty presence. Soft carbonation, medium body, slightly oily texture. The nose could be better, but it’s probably the best tasting BIPA I’ve ever had so far. Great.

Bottle. Bottled 05 02 14. Black pour, creamy off white head. Aroma is really roasty, piney hoppiness, light fruity hop notes, burnt grain. Taste is really bitter, roasty, burnt toast, lots of burnt toast, almost no sweetness. Palate is med bodied with light carbonation. Okay, but far from the Kernel I love.

Bottled on 05-02-14. Pours a dark brown beer with a good tan bubbling head. Smells fruity, some hints of chocolate. Tastes grapefruit, the bitterness is over powering the chocolate, coffee or roastiness. Very bitter. Average carbo, thin body and a dry oily texture.
