4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 DruncanVeasey (6116) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Premier, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - FEB 18, 2012
Bottle from Alexander Wines, Coventry. Clear and brassy until the bits go in, with a slender white foam. Lovely, stewed, tropical aroma with suggestions of strawberry chew, lychee, breakfast juice, liquorice and a touch of feta-like cheesiness. Biting, soapy hop flavour with bags of crisp grapefruit, pine and violets over a solid, chaffy malt base. Alcohol overpowered by flowery, tropical hops. Peanut linger. Kernel’s signature, chalky, cask-like condition. Could drink a few of these straight out of the fridge on a hot summer’s day (remember them?) and make myself sick. Beautiful beer.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (6982) - London, ENGLAND - DEC 9, 2011
Bottle at Pat’s birthday tasting at chriso’s. Pours hazy gold with a fine, foamy white head. Pleasant pine note in the aroma. Flavor is medium sweet, bold with some resinous bitters, sugar, toasted grass. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation and a fairly oily texture. Lightly warming finish with some stickiness, resins, grapefruit, grass. A hefty IPA, perhaps more so than other Kernel IPAs. Overall, though, superb.

(Draught at the Kernel Brewery, London, 26 Nov 2011. The blackboard said IPA Simcoe Centennial 7.3%, but I guess this is the one.) Hazy amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, grapefruit and dried apricots. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of grapefruit, pine needles, resin, dried apricots and a generous citric bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with some sweetness and a solid bitterness. Quite an impressive hop character. Lovely IPA!

Bottle from the brewery, Bermondsey, London December 2011 consumed at home with my dad 21.12.11 Pours hazy orange amber. Wonderful fruitiness i the mouth, soft carbonation. There is a peachiness and also some unripe apricots going on in the mouth, nicely bitter but not harsh, lovely and a pleasant diversion following all of the stouts. A8 A3 T8 P4 Ov16 3.9

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 madmitch76 (9867) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JAN 1, 2012
28th December 2011 Light haze on this amber beer, good off white head. Light palate, a little crisp. A little cream in the pale malt. Fresh pithy orange - tangerine with a little grapefruit underneath. Resinous. Trace of pine. Nicely joined up. Quite an astringent finish. This beer has calmed down a bit - 6 weeks ago it was even more bitter and had a sherbet orange note and a trace of peach. Good stuff.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Palme (2252) - Bergen, NORWAY - APR 10, 2012
0.33l bottle from beermerchants.com This one pours a light blurry orange-ish golden body with a small but heavy lacing off-white head. It’s really peachy in the aroma. It’s almost like smelling a ripe sweet peach, and there’s also tones of caramel, grass and clementine zest. It’s medium-bodied and it has a nice average carbonation level. On the flavor it’s also quite fruity with strong tones of peach and piny hops. I also get a good malty base and hints of fresh soap - in a good not so mouthdrying way. This tasted really fruity and fresh! Niice :) 25.03.2012
