3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a cloudy medium amber with a thin white head. The aroma is grass and nettles, but surprisingly a little weak. The flavour is medium to strong bitter, with lots of grass and hoppy pepper spice. Itís a rather rich beer and tastes a little bit like an imperial IPA even though itís not.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, Rehills, Newcastle. Big orange aroma, and the orange flavour just keeps on coming, with grapefruit and yeasty notes in there too. Subtle, balanced and up to the Kernelís high standard.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Whole Foods Market Piccadilly. Colour is hazy orangey amber, nice white bubbly head. Nose is big hit of gooseberry, earthy, rain on tarmac, grapefruit citrous, and hidden under all that some mango and tropical fruit. Wow! Taste is fruity gooseberry, grapefruit bitterness, then the earthy Nelson starts to dominate with a dryish stoney earthy fresh rain on tarmac taste, dry chalky mouth feel, hints of pine and nettle. Finish is bitter grapefruit pith and peel, and dry earthiness.

Taste: bit malty, some carale, cheesy hops, grains, bitter, exotic fruits. Aftertaste: bit grassy, pretty bitter, cheesy, some exotic fruits, very bitter, almost medicinal.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Courtesy of & thx! to tderoeck. 33 cl. bottle shared. Pours amber, little white head. Nose is light white grape (Nelson Sauvin fare), citrus, hint pine, slightly floral. Taste is white grapes, kiwi, touch pine, bitter pine resin, bark, more bitter kiwi & floral touch in the finish. Easy to drink body. Very nice, I donít really feel like the Kernel beers are all that different although they are quite good. Obviously they are all just the same beer with different hops so that make sense but even the Pale Ale & IPA series etc. donít seem to have a base which is all that different.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very dirty looking, like pond-water. A fat and rich tropical smell, and a bitterness. A decent beer but a second rate Kernel.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle with Sean and James from Jim. Pours hazy golden with light white head. Notes of cheesy nelson, bitter pine, citrus and malt. Thin body. Not bad but it was 6-7 weeks old. Itís probably great in London.
