Bottle from Stirchley Wines and Spirits, Birmingham. poured a cloudy orange colour with a very thin, off-white head and no lace. The carbonation is very low. The aroma is grassy and a little floral. The flavour is hoppy, zesty and the dry pepper hoppiness hits the palate right away. The smooth bitter aftertaste makes this a very diverse and refreshing ale that justifies its rating.

(bottle, 33cl, 6.5% abv) Cloudy, orange-golden colour with a short and slightly off-white foamy head. Piney and slightly sweaty aroma with notes of citrus and pineapples, accompanied by a mildly malty background. Moderately bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Dry malty base with loads of citric and exotic hops, also slightly resiny towards the dry and moderately bitter finish. 17.XII.12

Keg, assuming this is the version that was on tap at The Dean Swift. Pours a medium gold, slightly hazy, with a white head. Hoppy, fruity aroma, spruce, malt, grapefruit, grass, apricot, passion fruit. Off-dry, medium to full bodied, high bitterness, balanced CO2. Fruity, hoppy taste, apricot, malt, spruce, resin, grapefruit, grass, yeast. Big, bold, balanced. (2012-11-21)

Pretty sure this is the version I had on tap at Craft Beer Co. Wow, did not know the Kernel made so damn many varieties of their APA and IPA, batch by batch. Big lustrous orange pour with a silky head and a massive citrus nose. Soft, elegant mouthfeel and taste that balances the bitter with the sweet. Not quite as rocking as the APA but very good nonetheless.

This is the best IPA I personally ever had. The aroma and also the palate is full of tropical fruits like bananas, oranges, pineapples and peaches. The taste is fresh citra hopps, citrus fruits, oranges, hoppy bitterness that makes it very fresh.

Still undecided about which is the greatest London IPA. Kernel Citra, Brodies Citra or Redchurch Great Eastern? Anyway, I think this has to be a regular for the Kernel. His best IPA so far and I reckon he knows it. Can’t imagine how better it can get.

Wonderful hops aroma right out of the bottle. Small white head, quickly disappearing. Hazy orange to copper colour. Aroma citrus fruits, mango. Taste initially fruity mango sweet, quickly overtaken by bitter hop explosion. Grassy, grapefruit. This is probably as far, as one can get with citra only. Very drinkable, looong dry bitter finish, I can imagine finishing this bottle in seconds :-)
Exotic fruits, citrus fruits, good grassy bitterness, it is all to be found and enjoyed here. Very good.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2013 33cl bottle (6.6%). Pours hazy gold/orange with thin white head. Aroma is heady tropical fruits (mango/passionfruit) as well as juicy, zesty citrus notes. Some herbal earthy character too. Very fresh nose on it. Taste follows the aroma with plenty of tropical & citrus hop notes; a tasty smattering of slightly sweet malt balances well, but the citra is definitely in the driving seat. Herbal, slightly earthy tones emerge after the fruitiness subsides. There’s nothing too shouty about this IPA - it’s subtle, well made, and lets the hop do the talking in a really well-balanced way. Nice semi-dry finish with a tasty citric hop bitter zing and some lingering herbaceousness. A great brew.

(Bottle) Pours hazy amber with a sand coloured head. The aroma holds sweet citrus, fresh new cut grass, black currant, lychee, mango, passion fruit, wild strawberries and mint. Bready malt support. Undertones of grapes, dew, herbs and chives. The flavour is light sweet to dry, medium bitter and light acidic with notes of tropical fruits juice, green-ish notes, sweet berries, citrus, bread and a touch of yeast. The mouthfeel is clean and tiny tart with a light carbonation. Long citric, grassy and yellow fruity finish. Light to medium bodied.
