7.2 abv bottle, pours a slightly hazy golden brown, biscuit malts underneath a powerful hop presence, with pineapple, passion fruit and a long bitter finish. High quality IPA, as usual, from Kernel

Aroma: Lychee and pineapple. Pungent, powerful aroma.

Appearance: Hazy golden body with a huge off-white head. Very light carbonation. Great lacing.

Taste: Pineapple, pine, sweet lychee and a muted bitter finish. Nice pale malt balance.

Palate: Medium body with a very oily mouthfeel. Gentle carbonation.

Overall: I didn’t realise the Columbus hop could have such a powerful flavour. A fairly typical (in other words, brilliant) Kernel IPA.

(bottle, 33cl, 6.2% abv) Almost cloudy, pale golden colour with a blond and short foamy layer. Citric and slightly exotic fruity hoppy aroma with a mildly flowery touch. Moderately bitter flavour with a whiff of sourness, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Dry pale malt character with present fruity, mainly citric hops; dry and moderately bitter hop-laden finish with notes of grapefruit in the aftertaste. Another gem. 17.XII.12

Bottle (label says 6.2% abv): Golden, hazy, stable off-white foamy layer, distinctive, but not too robust, citrussy to grapefruity nose; dry moderate bitter flavour, medium bodied; lingering - even drier - grapefruity hoppy finish. Good, no doubt…

0.33l bottle from beermerchants.com This one is a light hazy honey colored beer with a small slowly fading light bubbly off-white head. The aroma is light Belgian-yeasty-hoppy and kinda hedge-like. Fresh, with lot’s of yellow citrus tones and also a sweet caramel-malty thing blended in here as well. It’s really citrus-hoppy in flavor. Makes my mouth feel quite dry while drinking it. It’s average carbonated, medium-bodied. I get much of that same Belgian yeast discovered in the aroma with a good hoppy flavor all the way. A bit floral actually towards the finish. Not the best I’ve had from the great brewery, but still a damn solid IPA that paired well with an Asian spicy chicken salad. 28.05.2012

Bottle at home, 23rd June 2012. Pours a nice clear straw coloured beer with a fluffy white head. Aroma pine needles and citrus. Taste is well balanced, some bitterness with sweet orange sherbert and bitter orange marmalade, a dry bitter sweet finish with some malt. Nice show case for the Columbus hop

Pours a clear and golden beer with a white head. The aroma is malt and hops with citrus, peach and blackcurrant. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is bitterness. Overall a good beer.

My third tasting of The Kernel. This is better than my second, which made me think that I wasn’t so keen on this particular brewery (too bitter, not enough interesting flavour to warrant the bitterness). Smells and tastes wonderful. Refreshing, fruity, zesty, and with a definite punch of flavour to it. Again, perhaps a bit too bitter, but this time with a wonderful depth of flavour. I think that I could drink these regularly.
