3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Balazs (654) - Budapest, HUNGARY - APR 2, 2013
Poured golden yellow, with a small white head. Hoppy aroma with hints of herbs, caramel, whiskey, earth, orange peel, perhaps a bit of vanilla. Bitter, piney taste in a medium body and plenty of carbonation. Alcohol is definitely there. Unusual, but a good one.

On tap @ Borefts 2012. This is a blurry golden-honey colored one with a small quickly fading off-white head. It’s a bit anonymous on the aroma at first, but I get a faint peach-fruity thing with some soft citrus nuances and hints of green grapes. Nice but subtle for this kind of beer. Nice flavors! Really fruity and different. Light astringent and mouthdrying in the finish. I also get a hint of vanilla, pepper corns and wood. An experiment that took the correct direction in my opinion. 28.09.2012

Bottle from the brewery. Pours a near clear deep amber orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a bitter pine note with swee grains and a whiskey backing. Flavor has a bit of resinous pine with a sweet grain and a musty whiskey note that grows.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2013 29th September 2012 Borefts Beer Festival IV. Day 2. Hazy amber beer, small white head. A little malt cream. Mild vanilla wood. Mellow sweet whisky and mild citrus and marmalade hops. A trace of pineapple cube sweets in the head. Semi dry finish. Lovely mellow BA DIPA. One of the highlights of the festival and I finished my tokens on several of these.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 harrisoni (10911) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - NOV 8, 2012
Bottle from the brewery BADSCCANS Galaxy dry hop version. Hazy deep gold lasting white head. Lots of tangerine on the aroma, some hop some from the whisky. Now there aren’t too many barrel aged double ipas I like. But this one really is quite good. Intense caramel toffee tangerine. Really rather lovely. Some alcohol heat on finish. To be honest its pretty damn good.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 HenrikO (22) - London, ENGLAND - NOV 4, 2012
Wow. Big sweet nose (candy, dried fruit, faint floral notes) followed by lots of hop aroma (mainly citric - marmalade, grapefruit, pith - but also resin, wood, a bit of leather) balanced by a nice sweet body (again dried fruit - think dried fruit mix - and some candy) and with hints of the whisky barrel. The barrel-aging becomes more evident as you drink and the beer warms up, you get more vanilla/caramel-type whisky-notes). Magnificent; one of Kernel’s best.
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Mochan1984 (5) - Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 28, 2012 does not count
This is one of the best beers the "Kernel" has produced. For me it’s up there with his Citra and Imperial Brown Stout. The only reason I can’t give it a perfect score is because the IBS is getting the same whisky treatment and I am confident it is going to be the best beer I have ever tasted. This has the perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness and a lovely warmth coming from the whisky. And it’s not too rich in taste so it goes past being a beer anymore. Bravo!
