3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DruncanVeasey (6110) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Premier, Warwickshire, - NOV 14, 2012330ml bottle- clean gold/translucent orange, depending on the steadiness of your hand. Slightly vomit-speckled, regurgitated peach and honey throatsweet aroma; obvious booze, lemon zest, tropical fruits struggling to rise above the booze. Soapy, perfumed, honey and lemon throatsweet flavour with a trace of malt nuttiness on the swallow. Hops strangled by honey, shampoo, cake, throatsweets, neat orange cordial, shower gel. Call me an old fart but a typical 4% Oakham/Mallinsons/Marble/Dr Morton’s golden ale is hoppier than this (annoying rise in inflection)...because it tastes more like hops? Hops unmuddied by all else. And hops is (predominantly) what I want from an IPA, any IPA. I know what I like/I like what I know, etc, etc.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 ClubGonzo (2692) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 8, 2013
Bottle, courtesy of winning a bet with StoreMy; cheers mate. ;-) Pours a clear light orange body with a medium creamy off-white head. Aroma is loads of lemon and citric peel, grapefruit, oranges and wet grass with hints of peaches and pine. Taste is remarkably fresh for a DIPA (and the ABV); pine, citric peel, mild resin, grapefruit and hints of light syrup-ish tones along with bitter herbs in the finish. Medium body (surprisingly) and mellow to medium carbonation, helping to drive the palate just enough. I like this a lot, and it’s very different from most American DIPAs who just wallop in syrupy pine tones. Fresh, drinkable and tasty. Nice job again from The Kernel.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Osprey87 (518) - London via, WALES - MAR 20, 2013
Aug 2012 - bottle, 10%, pineapple primary taste, strong woody bitterness. The pineapple taste is great, the hops are very strong (similar to intensity of the Stella) - quite an acquired taste. The bitterness is too intense - probably the most intense I’ve had apart from the first version of the IPA Stella that the Kernel did around the same time.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines & Spirits, Birmingham. Poured a cloudy rich reddish brown with a thin bubbly white head. The aroma is rich, citrusy and a little hoppy. The flavour is malty, bitter, dry, spicy and with some pepper bitterness on the palate. It’s a high ABV beer but the alcohol does not dominate the flavour.

Bottle. Pours a golden amber, with a dissipating white head. Aroma of resin, citrus, and alcohol. Medium sweetness followed by medium bitterness. Medium body with a thick syrupy texture. Intense alcohol combines with hops for a very bold flavor. Finish is long, bitter, and warming. Overall a powerful beer with powerful flavor, good for sipping slowly on a cold winter’s night.
