Draught at the brewery. The board at the brewery says 7.4 %. Hazy golden/apricot color, with a beautiful lasting offwhite/yellowish head. Great fruity hop aroma, passion fruit, mango, pine, caramel, pineapples, floral, grapefruit notes, woody, citrus, orange, clementines, biscuits, acidic, the different tropical fruits just keep coming. Hoppy fruity flavor, caramel, pine needles, woody, citrus, orange peels, clementines, floral, earthy, leather notes, herbal, pears, pineapples, grapes, mango, biscuits, banana notes. Fruity hop finish with caramel, grapes, pineapples, passion fruit, orange and lemongrass. Magic, one of the best IPA:s I have tried.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle at 7.4% ABV from the Beer Boutique, Putney. The usual murky amber pour (the only thing I find disappointing with these beers, surely some finings could be used) with just a trace of translucent head; beautiful tropical fruit aroma; clean, crisp, sweet grapefruit flavour; with some added woody bitterness towards the finish, which seems rather shorter lasting than usual.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Keg @ The Kernel. The pour’s hazy deep gold with a small head. The nose is strong, funky nelson hops. Loads of piss, gritty earth, soft citrus fruits and dirty bucolic aromas. The taste is wonderfully aggressive funky new world hops. Loads of bitter root, more piss, light cheese and soft pineapple. Dried mouldy grass. Medium body, active, bright palate. Overall, fantastic. So fresh and full of character.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Pours a cloudy orange, mango and tropical fruit aroma, love trying the Kernel single hop pale ales as it gives you a good idea of individual hop taste and aroma’s and I do love this fruity NZ hop.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
33cl bottle at the brewery. Pours a clear golden colour with a huge white soapy head. Aroma is grassy and hoppy, with flowers and grapefruits. Taste is grainy, grassy and hoppy. Moderately bitter. Thin/medium mouthfeel witg good carbonation. Overall, very nice and tasty pale ale, still easy to drink and refreshing.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
[330ml bottle, The Bottle Shop, Canterbury] Gusher, erupted on opening. Resulted in a beige opaque liquid. I once had the pleasure of tasting one of Evin’s beers straight from the conditioning tank, and it reminded me of that. Hop soup. Despite that, the NS vibe was highly in evidence – the tangy, vinous kiwi fruit flavour. Like grapes that have passed their sell-by date. Even though it was opaque, sill drinkable, which says a lot

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
500ml bottle. Beermerchants.com. Yep, I still love Nelson Sauvin hops and in this superb beer they smell and taste gorgeous. Soft kiwi and mango aromas, silky on the tongue, as mellow as you could ask for and with a hint of biscuit midway. A hazy orange appearance, a semi sweet long finish. Flippin gorgeous.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Bottle. 6.1% not 6.8)
Quite a lot of sediment, settled well in the bottle. Pours thick, white head, diminishing fairly quickly, to give a thin, white covering. Slightly hazy, light amber. Light carbonation. Aroma - Tropical fruit (more sweet passionfruit/mango rather than a more floral/lychee aroma), fairly sweet caramel malt, but also some slight, sour yeastiness behind it. Taste - Fairly sweet at first, but turns drier, with a slight, dry finish. Fruity throughout; sweet, tropical, citrus, mandarin. Lightly bitter, citrus finish. Not as sweet as some of the Kernel’s other IPAs; a more balanced hop experience and more drinkable. Medium body.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Emerged from the confines of its glass cage a slightly murky copper colour with a restrained beige head. Plenty of pissy nelson sauvin hoppage in the nose as anticipated.in tandem with lovely juicy tropical fruit that continued on into the flavour. Superb mouthfeel, and oh so drinkable. Bob on bitterness. I always expect good things from the Kernel and this lovingly crafted chap didn’t disappoint. Class it seems is indeed permanent.
