330ml bottle from Ales by Mail

Bottled 04.06.13 - Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma of floral hops, exotic fruits, biscuity malts and juicy notes. Taste is hoppy, juicy and bitter with loads of floral notes, exotic fruits and hints of biscuity malts. Finish is juicy, fruity and hoppy with some warming alcohol and some stuffy notes. Nice, tasty, but slightly unbalanced IPA.

33cl bottle. light orange pour. aroma gives heady juicy tropical fruit -tangerine, mango, peach. Taste gives plenty of juicy fruit (sweet tangerine and peach), light passionfruit, quite a bit of herby stuff, light pine, bit of menthol. Standard kernel malt body - beautiful light biscuit & cake dough - lets the hops take centre stage. Lingering pine and pithy orange/grapefruit bitterness.

330 ml bottle.
Pours an unclear copper orange colour with a white head. Aroma of fresh strong pineapple, herbal notes, pine and sweet toffee. Flavour is full-on floral bitter with sweet toffee, licorice root(!), strong pineapple, mango, lemongrass, some biscuit and grapefruity tanginess. Full bodied, oily mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Lovely warming, fruity, floral finish with strong bitterness and surprisingly heavy sweetness. What a treat.

330ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark orange with a large, frothy head. Aroma is pineapple, melon and lychee. Taste has.melon to start. Strong bitter mango and pineapple finish. Hop taste lingers. Smooth and full in the mouth. Not intense, just really good and drinkable.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Brightly fruity, with a softened, slightly muted mouthfeel. Improves down the glass.

Cloudy Sunset gradient, mostly lasting neat bubbly off-white cap. Sumptuous sherberty nose of foil fresh hops, deep scoops of passion fruit and that well expensive Tropicana Sanguinello - no cheap citrus/orange here. Joyous balance of peppery tickle carbonation and oily drained fruit juice tinned syrup tinny edge on the mouthfeel. This cages in a flapping amount of bitterness throughout, chained to a malty pole. The ABV burn peeks out a little at the right moment but there wasn’t much room left on the palate for much more than a Simcoe sweet linger masking the bitter. Would love to have seen the difference in this just two weeks ago!

Bottle from Hippo Beers. Hell yeah. A complex, viscous, bittersweet clusterf**k between a grapefruit, the god of hops, and Diamanda Galas. Beaut.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2013 Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Pours a cloudy, slighty dirty shade of orange/brown, with a good sized head. Aroma is big - grapefruit hops, butter, orange, floral. Very strong - don’t need to go too near to take it all in. Initial bitterness in the taste isn’t too overpowering; this has balance. Again, grapefruit dominates but there’s also orange Calpol, strong alcohol, wood, honey. Dry, long bitter finish complements those sweet tastes very well. This is a bit special and a great way to reach 500 ratings.
