330ml bottle from Ales by Mail

Bottled 04.06.13 - Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma of floral hops, exotic fruits, biscuity malts and juicy notes. Taste is hoppy, juicy and bitter with loads of floral notes, exotic fruits and hints of biscuity malts. Finish is juicy, fruity and hoppy with some warming alcohol and some stuffy notes. Nice, tasty, but slightly unbalanced IPA.

Bottled June 4 - thanks a ton to Ben! Pours hazy amber gold with a small off-white head and some lacing. Aroma is citrus, tropical, pine resin, spruce tip, cat piss. Flavor is about the same, quite resinous. Little sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Pretty darn good, but I bet it was better in mid June!

330ml bottle. Cloudy deep copper with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of pine, grass, grain and wood. Flavours of citrus fruits, cereal, wood, marmalade. Slightly sweet initially, leading to robust bitter finish. Medium bodied with moderate and very fine carbonation. Slick mouthfeel, slightly oily. Well balanced. Lovely.

Thanks to leaparsons for the bottle when I met up with him in Leicester. I have tried a couple of the different Kernel IPAs and all have been impressive. This one is no exception. If you ever get a chance to travel to the UK don’t pass on one of the best breweries in the UK.

Aroma / Appearance - The cloudy orange base grows a starchy white head as it builds in the glass. Carbonation lurks in the body. Peaches, oranges, rose hips, and powdered sugar residue from a bag of donut holes create a nice texture that is fruity and bright.

Flavor / Palate - Citrus, lemons, and a fresh bouquet of summer flowers brighten the palate. A creamy balance warms the throat. The bitterness builds in the back of the throat until reaching a pleasing peak. From the first sip to the last it does not disappoint. This is a world class release.

Bottle. Sourced Market, St. Pancras. 6.6%. Pretty murky, dark gold. Off white head of Kernel. Aromas of grapefruit pith. Orange juice. Peach stone. Bit of earthiness. Smells great. Taste is earthy bitter. Touch of tinned fruit sweetness. Soft, smooth, oily mouthfeel. Nice hop burps. Finish has a little sweetness amongst the pithy bitterness. Nice one.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2013 Tap at CBC Clerkenwell. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Quickly disappears leaving spotty lacing. Nose shows very punchy tropical fruits - mango, passionfruit, white grapes. Akin to passion fruit yoghurt, almost lactose notes. Taste akin to a tropical punch bowl of fruits. There is some light biscuit behind it all but the taste is overrun by largely tangy driven fruits. Bitter sweet profile with a medium - light mouth feel. Solid stuff

Tap @ The Kernel. Hazy amber with a tight white head. The nose is lemon cake, sweet mango and other tropical fruits. Quite sweet and easy on the nose. The taste is similar. Lemon rind, sugar cookies, mango and syrupy pear. Light earthy hop bitterness. Medium body, fine carbonation. Overall, solid.
