Pours hazy orange with a finger white head. Smell nice earthy grapefruit and citrus hop. Taste musty, dirty, bitter, orange peel and lemon zest, more earth on the after taste. Lighter body, easy drinking. Very well done IPA

I was surprised at the excellent balance of this simcoe single hop beer. Bronze-brass body with decent head. The aroma is of forest and thickets densely hoppy, wonderfully so with some evergreen resin and gentle woodiness and hop pellet dust. The body too resonates with these qualities--evergreen forest, dense woods and lovely touches of hop resin. Excellent balance. This one rises above the sum of its parts.

Bottle. Hazy Gold with a generous White head. Aroma of citrus. Lemon, Grapefruit and Orange peel. Flavour has a worthy Malt presence and satchels full of Simco. Couldn’t fail.

06/07/2013 330ml bottel (thanks Theydon_Bois!). Dorata carica, mediamente limpida, schiuma biancastra abbondante e persistente. Al naso sentori di pesca, agrumi e resina, malto ben percettibile. In bocca una base di malto (caramello) e un finale amaro prolungato. Corpo medio, carbonazione soft. Non male.

My Bottom Line:
This smashingly juicy American-style IPA showcases mango, peach and orange fruitiness atop bitter hop resins in a clean, polished and bubbly mouthfeel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam covers the hazy orange (which is quite bright without the yeast pour).
-The tropical fruitiness is beautifully balanced out by the coniferous resins. A beautiful hop this Simcoe, used very professionally.
-There is lots of yeast in the bottle, but even when you pour it in it doesn’t take away much of the hop flavor.
-Drinkability is medium, which is to be expected in these American-style IPAs which pack a punch.
-This is an IPA which can stand on its own versus the best American examples. Bravo!

Bottle.

330 ml bottle 6.7% abv bottled 8/4/13. Pours murky orange / brown, with a fair bit of yeast sediment. Big Simcoe hoppy aroma, seville orange, grapefruit, juicy and tangy before ending with a bitter finish. As usual from Kernel, it’s a solid hoppy IPA

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2014 Very murky golden body with lots of yeast flecks floating around. This is yeasty even by usual Kernel standards. Massive white head that holds well. Lots of sticky lacing marks. Pungent hoppy aroma - freshly cut blood orange, lychee, grapefruit, candy and pine resin. Sharper than the sweet aroma suggests. Orange, grapefruit, pine and pineapple. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation. A very fruity IPA. Surprisingly smooth and drinkable for its strength.

6.7% version May 2013 from the brewery. Pours clear orange gold with a slight haze, needed a good swirl in my Duvel glass to get rid of some of the carbonation to release all the aromas and flavours. I really love Simcoe. And the aroma on this is pure Simcoe. Piney cat pee. Lovely. Really good in mouth too. Just delicious. So drinkable. Good bitterness on finish and that pure Simcoe pine sharp grapefruit finish. Gorgeous.

Bottle at the Rake. Clear copper thin beige head. Decent simcoe aroma. Even a bit of funk. Not sure. Bit hard in the mouth. You do get that with American style ipa. Very hard candy. Tastes its strength too. Its cool, if a tad hard 3.3/5. Re-rate at Bottle Shop Canterbury. 7.4% abv. Gorgeous simcoe aroma. Some creamy vanilla in the mouth. Light bitterness on the finish. Touch of sweet alcohol.

Pours hazy orange with small white head, good lacing. Aromas and taste of soap, rye, smoke, and astringent grains. Not bad, wish it was a little bit fresher.
