330ml bottle. 7.2%. Slightly cloudy orange amber colour, white foam head and flowery resin hop aroma. Sharp fizzy bitterness, resin hop flavours, some yeast and flowery hop/smooth bitter aftertaste. Leaves some back of the throat bitterness and dry resin hop notes in the finish. Quite a nice IPA.

jmgreenuk (3563) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - NOV 11, 2013
Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a very slightly hazy medium amber with a thin white head. The aroma is trademark Kernel with loads of grassy hop and nettles, grapefruit citrus and a little smooth caramel. The flavour is medium bitter. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A slightly creamy mouthfeel with a spicy pepper palate and a long spicy bitter finish.

(Bottle) Amber colour with huge, frothy, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of gooseberries, orange peel, passion fruit, lychee and biscuits. Fruity, hoppy taste with citrus, grapefruit, orange peel, passion fruit, biscuity malt and a fairly bitter finish with generous amounts of citric, floral hops. More than medium body, with just a touch of sweetness. Another great Kernel IPA with a fresh and generous hop presence (you’re spoiling us). Very nice.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines (Birmingham). First taste of Kernel and it will not be the last. Pours golden with resolute head. At first scent it produced a magnificent bouquet of orange and grapefruit with herbal undertones. Beautifully pungent. The taste is one of commendable balance. Its a beautiful amalgamation of an IPA. With fruity citrus - orange and grapefruit rind, malt template with caramel and resin. Bitterness is at the heart but comes in the form of the grapefruit rind up front and then generic astringent tail at the end. Great beer.

Bottle at William IV (Magic Rock takeover) 10/12/12. 7.5% on this batch from June ’12. Hazed mid amber with a thin off white head. Nose is pine, hops, light grapefruit, touch of mango. Taste comprises bitter grapefruit, orange pith, sugars, light caramel malts. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter finish. Decent enough solid IPA but at 6 months old perhaps not fresh enough to enjoy at its optimum!

Very aromatic hops. Flavour has initial soft maltiness. Later there’s a moderately bitter hop finish.

Aroma: Honeycomb, resin and orange. Slightly herbal and floral.

Appearance: Murky, copper body with a small, chalk white head. Slight lacing.

Taste: Sweet pine, honeycomb and caramel flavour, with a peppery, bitter finish.

Palate: Medium body with a slightly oily, slightly foamy texture. Flat carbonation.

Overall: I had a 7.5% ABV version. It’s sweet and a little peppery - not one of my Kernel favourites, but it’s still pretty good.

330 ml bottle bought @ beermerchants.com. Pours hazy and cloudy reddish golden with a small frothy and bubbly offwhite head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small sticky trace to the glass. Smell is tiny sweet and slightly fruity with grapefruit juice, orange peal marmalade, oatmeal cookies, perfume-like citrus incense, grass, wheat thins, dried apricots, mango, wood and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet and bitter with crackers, grapefruit juice, orange peal, lemon peal, cookie dough, orange peal marmalade, lemon hard candy, strawberry jam, pine, resin, grapefruit rinds, blood oranges and hints of alcohol. mouthfeel is round, slightly oily bitter and medium bodied. Finish is bitter with grapefruit rinds, strawberry jam, resin, oatmeal cookies, lemon hard candy, grass and lemon zest. Consumed a few days before the best before date. Getting a bit old and tired.

Marsiblursi (2983) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - OCT 16, 2012
(Bottle) Pours cloudy orange amber with a small, sand coloured head. The aroma holds resinous wood and citrus (lemon, grapefruit, lime and tart oranges) up front with undertones of earth, bread, light straw and a touch of minerals. The flavor is light near dry, near heavily bitter and light acidic with lots of citrus and wood. Undertones of flowers, dry bread and touch of fruits. The mouthfeel is clean, soft and light astringent with a light carbonation. Long citric finish. Near medium bodied.
