Bottle from brewery. Colour is a beautiful clear deep dark ruby red with an off white medium foam head. Nose is rich, malty, marmalade, pine kernels, caramel, with some tropical fruit pineapple and mango. Taste is ruby bitter, piney, marmalade, caramel, chocolate, tropical fruit. A lot going on in this. Like an American IPA meets a barley wine.

Bottle, 6.9% with centennial and simcoe hops. Pours chestnut red with a thin light brown head which soon fades to a thin ring. Aroma of lemon grass, black pepper, ginger, lime and coriander. Taste of chocolate, burnt toffee and caramel with some nutmeg and mint. Light, lingering bitterness in the finish. Medium body, medium carbonation, oily mouthfeel.

Bottle from work. Probably the best UK Rye IPA I’ve tasted. Sweeter and darker than most good US examples. Candy caramel apricot sweetness. Peppery. Quite dark and dank. Smells like a rubicon. Decent.

Hippoman (397) - Durham, ENGLAND - OCT 13, 2015
Keg at IMBC 2015. Cloudy, ruby-brown beer with a large, frothy, light tan head. The aroma is hugely enjoyable, with loads of ripe fruit, most obviously pineapple and light grain. The taste starts with short, creamy bitterness and glides effortlessly into fruity sweetness and a dry, cereal and rye finish, with leafy, grassy notes that toys with the line between fresh and stale flavours and lands just on the right side. Very good.

ElDesmadre (2507) - Mikołów, POLAND - OCT 12, 2015
Bottle. Excellent soft mouthfeel and a likewise excellent balance between a caramelly malt base and a resiny hopping that is strong enough to assert itself but still decides to accompany the malts from a distance.

Smithld1 (71) - Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 12, 2015
Half. Deep cloudy colouring. Frothy but quickly vanishing head. Good example of a heavy rye ale. The tap claims 6.9% rather than the 7.3% suggested here. Very doable for a half.

jercraigs (9041) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 11, 2015
2015-09-24. Hazy dark amber with nice orange highlights, foamy beige head and lace. 3++ Aroma has a pleasant hop melange, mild green herbaceous hops blend with oily citrus and orange peel. Flavour is pleasantly hoppy, nice oily citrus character. 7+ Average plus to medium bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Moderate bitterness throughout, supportive malt is subtle but present. Rather nice. On tap at Holborn Whippet, London, UK.
