4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
500ml bottle at the Rake, 14th May 2010, with Evin from The Kernel and tdtm82. Evin said that whereas he was aiming for smoothness with the 25.11.09 Porter, with this one he was going for big flavours more than anything. Black with a magnolia head. Fantastic aroma - leather, coffee and a hint of liquorice. Great flavour; earthy tobacco at the back and sides of the mouth. So very dry at the finish. Some phenols and not as smooth as the previous Porter but who cares, this is outstanding.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle; home, bought from Evin, ’A London Porter’ is on the label and abv is 5.5%
Appearance is opaque with a nice holding; mocha-chocolate lacing which turns creamy-white, covering 4-5ths of the glass. Opaque black and can’t see through this
Aroma is coffee; grains, Devon cream, well disguised citrus hops and Swiss milk-chocolate. Taste is leather, Swiss white milk chocolate, espresso shots, Devon cream, some incredibly well hidden citrus hops and a lovely roasted malt touch which is quite smokey. Toffee and caramel is also in the mix.
Very nice porter and I wish more places would serve classic and authentic porter such as this as it is the real deal not some pretentious nitro keg guzzler which lacks roast and balance.
The bitterness is also very divine and reminds me of Great Divide Yeti a lot. Can session this.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 18, 2010 A Mes rate. Bottle at the Rake thanks to Evin.
Impressive black body and tan headed looks plus amazingly well conditioned. Full of chocolate, coffee, leather and oak. Just the right level of bitterness for the style. Superb malt, really inky, tarry and the full car tyre stuff. Some rain on tarmac (always wanted to say that in a rate...) Bloody good yet again from The Kernel.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, bought @ Beermerchants.com.
Pours very deep brown, bordering on black. The nice, beige head starts off fizzy, but settles as a few millimeters of creamy cappucino foam. Aroma is wonderful, lots of coffee and roasted malts. Great hops profile with piney and flowery notes. Medium carbonation, light palate with a great grainy dryness. Flavour starts with a great dose of astringency from the black malts, lots of coffee, some dark chocolate. Long, lingering malty and hoppy bitterness, kinda grainy finish.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask, Jolly Butchers, Stoke Newington. Near enough black looks with a tan head. Very appealing aroma packed with chocolate, dark fruit, coffee and roasted malt. Similar elements were all present in the flavour which was thoroughly enjoyable. Really smooth with the bitterness bob on, with just a hint of sourness. A top quality porter.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
BCA (500ml), from beermerchants.com. This pours an inky black and has a ripe vineous nose. Heavily roasted malt taste, with a bittersweet finish and a touch of biscuit in the aftertaste. Burnt toast detected on the tongue, mingling with some ripe cherry and peaty smokiness. An exceptionally well made and robust BCA.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Really liked this porter from The Kernel (great to taste with other porters from this innovative brewery). Dark brown/black with good light brown head. Toffee/chocolate/malt aroma. Nice light tmedium body with traditional porter taste following from aroma with smooth toffee/malt continuing to consistent finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottle, purchased at the brewery outlet) Very dark brown colour, almost black. Huge, creamy, beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, cocoa, blueberries and creamy coffee. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, cocoa, dark bread and smooth, creamy coffee coming through towards the end. Gentle coffee bitterness. Medium body, mainly dry. Soft and smooth mouthfeel. Very nice and well balanced porter.
