Scopey (6659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 30, 2011
Both from bottle and cask at the Kernel Brewery. It pours cloudy orange, with a thick fluffy off-white head. The nose is tangerine, tangy orange, mango, fresh pine and resin. The taste is tangerine, orange pith, zesty, oily hop, pine, earth, marmalade and resin, with a massive bitter finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and oily mouth-feel. A big, bold flavoursome APA.

Aroma: Grapefruit, orange and caramel.

Appearance: Murky golden body with a medium white head that holds well. Very lively carbonation. Nice lacing.

Taste: Caramel notes initially then a lovely zesty lime, grapefruit and tangerine finish. Light bitterness.

Palate: Thin to medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Average carbonation.

Overall: Beautifully balanced and very easy drinking. Not as complex as other Kernel beers I’ve tried.

Very hazy orange - amber beer, tidy white head. Light crisp palate, dry. Small amount of creamy malt supports bags and bags of Amarillo. Fresh orange, spicy orange, piney orange! More fresh orange towards the finish with grapefruit bitterness ramping up. Dry finish. Full on Pale Ale - great hops. A tad dry was the only distraction.

Hazy coppery colored pour. Big, foamy, off-white head. Plenty of lacing. Big hop aroma. Malt nose as well. Hoppy, hoppy taste. A little bit of malts underneath. But mainly hops. Smooth and sweet finish, with a bit of dryness. Very good APA.

Bottle at home in London with Lyoli. Pours cloudy gold with a foamy, white head. Has a beautiful, floral hop aroma with some orange and pineapple. Light to medium sweet with grass, toasty and dry malts, pine, mango. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dry, lightly sticky finish, some straw, grass, citrus rind. Very nice stuff.

Svesse (6065) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - DEC 29, 2011
(Cask at the Kernel Brewery, London, 26 Nov 2011) Hazy, pale amber colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of citrus, orange peel and apricots. Fruity, hoppy taste with apricots, citrus, passion fruit and a generous citrussy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Very nice and tasty pale ale.

Bottle from Mr Lawrence, Brockley, shared with Slothez on Thanksgiving. Murky orange pour with a slightly reluctant off white head. Enticing nose packed with juicy fruit and resinous hops. Flavour didn’t quite hit the heights but some tasty orange and grapefruit notes tussled for position with the amarillos. Lengthy dry bitter finish. Maybe not my favourite offering from the Kernel, but by they set such a very high standard, so that’s not necessarily a criticism.

(shared bottle with Tone@Mr Lawrence Wine Bar, Crofton Park) Orange pour with a medium white head, persistent lacing. Aroma/taste is citrus hop forward, orange, pine, caramel malt. Initial sweetness on the palate to a good bitter finish. Very good.

Fin (7347) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 3, 2011
Bottle at the Kernel Brewery, Bermondsey, London, 03.12.11 Pours glowing gold/orange with quickly departing white head. Soft in the mouth, buzzy, tangy flavours and hoppiness tangle for attention in the mouth. Grapefruit shows, good bitterness throughout, quit crisp in mouth at times. Nice stuff! A6 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.6

Light unclear medium yellow orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, citrus, pine, orange, dusty. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, hoppy, sharp pine. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20111203]
