3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Theydon_Bois (3382) - The ’Sham, Surrey, ENGLAND - AUG 4, 2012
Poured from a 500ml bottle (brewery purchase drank at home Apr ’12) into an English pint glass to a slightly hazy golden colour with tinges of brown coming through and a large bubbly beige head.
Tropical fruit ... thinking mango and graperuit, on the nose allied to pine, wood and a little malt.
Taste wise, hops, citrus, pine needles, grassy/straw - slightly earthy and veering off towards a slightly sour/bitter flavour (almost saison like in some respects!)
Mouthfeel was medium in body, moderate in carbonation leading to a dry, slighty sour finish.
Overall I would drink this beer again, but I’m not totally convinced by it (as I am most easily by the vast majority of Kernel products).
Not the typical finish you’d expect from a pale ale!

BIG ass tangerine and grapefruit nose. Cloudy beer - too much yeast in these bottles! Big taste too - mandarin and grapefruit. Top notch - big , brash and flavourful.

The hops jump out as soon the bottles open. Tangerine, pine, lemon and caramel very prnounced. Lots of life. Tons of tanergines linger in the finish. Soo well balanced. A touch of earthiness. Superb
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorgeLee (769) - Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 4, 2012
Bottle from the Kernel. Poured a very murky brown colour, looked rather like a dodgy homebrew. Aroma and taste very hop driven, lots of pine and slight resin flavour. Bitter finish. These Kernel beers are nice but I am starting to find tehm a bit one dimensional - loads of hops but could have a more malty ase.

Keg at the new brewery. Pale slightly browny gold colour with big beige bubbly head. Aroma is bread and wood, bit of citrus, biscuit malt, lemon. Taste is malty and citrus bitter. Nice and hoppy. Lemon and a touch of cream.

In bottle. Pours a slightly hazy, light golden colour with a fair white head. Lovely hoppy aroma of pine, pineapple, passion fruit and caramel. Similar resinous hop flavours of pineapple, mango and caramel again. Nice and dry with moderate carbonation.

Bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk. Thanks! Pale bright yellow/orange. Floral tropical fruit, mango nose. Slightly restrained for kernel but still pleasant. Juicy dryness, some mango on the palate. Sherbetty fizz. Finish is juicy bitter. Not bad.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Leighton (7179) - London, ENGLAND - DEC 10, 2011
Bottle at home in London with Lyoli. Pours an un-Kernelesque clear gold with a small, white head. Fine grass and lightly tangy citrus aroma. Light to medium sweet flavor, with moderate bitterness, light grapefruit, wet straw. Medium in body with fine carbonation. Nicely balanced finish, some dry grass, subtly tangy fruits. Very easy drinker.

Bottle from Beer Ritz, Leeds. Drunk on the Liverpool-Dublin ferry.
Poured a slightly murky yellow with an off white head. Tropical fruit and hop nose. Plenty of citrus and grassy hop in the flavour in tandem with some notes yeast and biscuity malt. Dry bitter finish. Very chuggable and hard to fault.
