jamestulloch (1566) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JAN 2, 2014
Bottle from Vino Wines. Murky amber body with a medium white head. Lively carbonation. Thick lacing marks. Muted aroma of orange and grapefruit. Soft citrus flavour. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Almost flat carbonation. Very drinkable but the flavour is a bit dull and non-descript. This version was 5.6% ABV.

Bottle @ The Bruery, shared by Leighton. Clear golden pour with a white head. Aroma is kind of funky. Weird feet/sock character. Grapefruit, pine, and soap. Grain, biscuit, and a hint of tropical fruit. Flavor is bitter up front with a lot of pine, grass, and soap. Some sweet biscuit and bread. Grapefruit, light tropical fruit, and flowers.

Bottled on 06/11/13. Pours a hay orange/brown with a white head. Aroma is tangerine and light tropical fruit. Light body, a little thin, medium carbonation. a little ginger, orange, rye, mildly herby, light caramel. It’s OK, a little thin, not on a par with the majority of other kernel beers I’ve had. Plenty drinkable though.

SlackerMads (1700) - Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 17, 2013
Bottle, bottle date 2013-11-05. Close to clear copper with a small off white head. Lots of pine, white bread, bark, earthy, tangerine, light grapefruit. Medium body, little sweetness, dry finish with long lasting bitterness. I always enjoy The Kernel pale ales, but this one is more bitter and dry than I prefer.

500mL thanks to Leighton! Clear straw pour, okay foam. Nose is apple, some oxidized notes. Taste is very soapy, papery, feels oxidized. An unfortunate flop :(

Bottle at Kernel. It pours pale golden amber with a thick white head. The nose is pine, toast, earth, sherbet, orange, tangerine and mango. The taste is crisp, piney, orange, tangerine, light toast, hay and sherbet with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Tasty, balanced and massivly drinkable. Yum.

Theydon_Bois (9915) - The ’Sham, Surrey, ENGLAND - AUG 4, 2012
Poured from a 500ml bottle (brewery purchase drank at home Apr ’12) into an English pint glass to a slightly hazy golden colour with tinges of brown coming through and a large bubbly beige head. Tropical fruit ... thinking mango and graperuit, on the nose allied to pine, wood and a little malt. Taste wise, hops, citrus, pine needles, grassy/straw - slightly earthy and veering off towards a slightly sour/bitter flavour (almost saison like in some respects!) Mouthfeel was medium in body, moderate in carbonation leading to a dry, slighty sour finish. Overall I would drink this beer again, but I’m not totally convinced by it (as I am most easily by the vast majority of Kernel products). Not the typical finish you’d expect from a pale ale!
