Bottle from Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Bottled 15.07.14. 5.4%. Hazy gold. Thin, messy, sticky, white head. Tinned, tropical fruit. Light, pithy, pink grapefruit. Hint of biscuit spiciness. Taste is dry, and light bitter. Zesty, and oily palate. Finishes with some peachy sweetness, with a dry, light bitter close. Obviously it’s good, but it’s not one of Kernel’s best.

Pours a cloudy dull golden orange with a fluffy off-white head. The smell is tropical fruit, grass, tangerines. The taste is tropical fruit some tartness, ending dry with grapefruit. The body is is light/medium with some creaminess to it. It has fine carbonation. Typically great beer from The Kernel.

330ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, orangey golden colour with average, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Wonderful Mosaic aroma, a plethora of tropical fruit like mango and passion fruit, mixed with blueberry, hints of pine. A biscuity caramel basis sustains the bitter hoppy taste, fruity hop notes come mingled with malt sweetness, therefore with slightly restricted intensity, but also more integrated, aligned, somewhere in a peach and mango array; additionally a mineral touch of lemon in the finish. You wouldn’t expect Kernel to flop with an APA, would you? Less than ever if Mosaic is involved? You’re so damn right, but this forecast is just as illuminative as a sentence like "Tomorrow there will be ... weather."

Copper orange with ringed sudsy-head. Aroma is typical mosaic-minefield. Light citrus, grapefruit, blueberry, hint of pine. Light biscuit malt supports. Nice and crisp on the palate. Light body, but robust carbonation offers a lift. Taste is more citrus, straw, grass, light blueberry note. My only qualm is the bitterness is a little scratchy and spicy, earthy - not as refined as it could be. Still a top APA and one that proudly sits aside some of the world’s best.

Shared a 33cl bottle with 3 months. Pours a orangish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, citrus and hoppy. Average carbonation and light body. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet. Overall, a very good Ale with a lot of fruitiness and refreshing.

Bottle, 7 weeks old, 5.4%. Hazy light orange or yellow, sparkling, small foamy white head. Aroma - some grass, lemon, light melon, maybe even a bit of musty coffee bean. Body is light, quite foamy. Taste - buttery malts, straw, mixed citrus (mostly lemon) and floral, light bitterness. Dry ashy aftertaste.

Bottle from ’Jacks’ Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, Wednesday 30th April consumed at home Sunday 5th May 2014 Pours mucky orange gold with filmy white head. Lemon comes through closely followed by a little pine resin and a little perfumey soapiness. Nice but not so very different from many of the other great Pale Ales from Kernel. A7 A3 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

(Draught at the brewery, 12 Apr 2014. 5.5%) Golden yellow colour, hazy, with frothy white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with lemon, grapefruit and floral/resiny hops. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of lemon, grapefruit, a crisp malt character and a generous resiny bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Crisp and fresh, with an impressive hop character. Very nice.
